Position Overview The
Senior Estimator
is responsible for managing all aspects of the preconstruction and estimating process, from concept through final proposal. The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge, analytical ability, and leadership experience within the
commercial construction industry .
Key Responsibilities
Lead the preparation of detailed estimates for large-scale commercial projects, including conceptual, schematic, and final GMP estimates
Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare accurate takeoffs and cost analyses
Develop bid strategies and coordinate subcontractor solicitations, scope reviews, and bid leveling
Collaborate closely with project management, operations, and preconstruction teams to ensure accurate budgets and constructability
Manage relationships with
owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors
to support preconstruction goals
Participate in value engineering and design‑assist processes to achieve cost savings without compromising quality
Support business development and proposal efforts by preparing cost narratives, clarifications, and bid presentations
Mentor junior estimators and assist in developing departmental best practices and standards
Qualifications
8+ years of experience in
commercial construction estimating , preferably with a large‑scale general contractor
Proven experience estimating
projects $20M–$100M+
in sectors such as corporate, healthcare, higher education, or industrial
Strong proficiency with
estimating software
(e.g., On‑Screen Takeoff, WinEst, Sage Estimating, BuildingConnected, Bluebeam)
Excellent understanding of construction means and methods, materials, and cost drivers
Exceptional attention to detail, analytical thinking, and organizational skills
Strong communication and negotiation abilities with subcontractors and project stakeholders
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field
