Director of Engineering The Director of Engineering is responsible for maintaining the overall operation of the maintenance department and the appearance and working order of the hotel. The Director is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and continuous operation of all hotel systems, including mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, and preventive maintenance. You will ensure that all legal, safety, health, fire, and environmental regulations are met in alignment with our core values.
The Director of Engineering must be willing to respond to emergencies, and work with corporate maintenance on special remodeling projects or capital expenditure needs. This position requires overall maintenance knowledge and trouble shooting ability with skills in painting, HVAC, carpentry, equipment, and tool usage.
Duties include:
Lead and manage the engineering team to ensure high performance and efficiency.
Develop and implement strategies for ongoing property maintenance and preventative maintenance programs
Oversee the upkeep of the physical plant, including grounds, utility services, vehicles, and equipment.
Manage budgets, forecasting, and capital expenditure planning.
Prepare and submit budget estimates and progress and cost tracking report
Develop and implement quality control programs.
Inspect and review projects to monitor compliance with building and safety codes, and other regulations
Capable of working with building code officials, planning/zoning officials and community design committees when required
Coach and counsel employees to reflect Hyatt service standards and procedure
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience); Engineering/Facility Management degree strongly preferred.
7-10+ years of progressive engineering/facilities leadership experience in full-service or luxury hotels, or resorts, (typically including 6+ years in a senior facilities/engineering role.).
Proven track record managing large, diverse teams, with strong coaching, mentoring, and performance management skills.
Deep technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and building automation systems, with hands-on experience troubleshooting and optimizing building performance.
Demonstrated success planning and executing capital projects and renovation programs, including budgeting, scheduling, contractor oversight, and turnover to operations.
Service-oriented leadership style with excellent presentation, communication, and problem-solving skills; clear, concise written and verbal communication in English.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, with the ability to analyze data and develop action plans to improve performance and the bottom line.
Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds, fostering an inclusive and respectful work environment.
Possesses high energy, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a motivational leadership style, with a consistent focus on safety, guest experience, and operational excellence.
Strong working knowledge of building codes, life safety regulations, and local authority requirements (or similar complex regulatory environment).
Proven experience collaborating with ownership groups, city agencies, and corporate stakeholders, representing the hotel's engineering function at a senior level.
Preferred
Experience in a resort or luxury hotel environment.
Professional certifications such as PE, CFM, LEED, or similar.
Familiarity with Hyatt brand standards, corporate engineering programs, and Hyatt specific systems and processes.
