Responsibilities The Peer Recovery Coach provides non‑clinical services intended to aid patients in establishing recovery from high risk of dependent alcohol and drug use problems. The Coach works as part of the Emergency Department to provide peer support and motivation to encourage patients seeking treatment for alcohol or drug dependency and addiction issues. The Coach assists in completing referrals to treatment services and developing service plans to promote successful linkage to treatment services. Services are provided in the Emergency Department and on the admitting floors if the patient is admitted to the hospital and include appropriate follow‑up.
Requirements
Education and Work Experience:
High school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
License Requirements:
N/A
Certification Requirements:
Certified through the Maryland Addiction Professional Board, or within 18 months of hire; participates in continuing education programs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel
Microsoft Outlook
Meditech (if applicable to position)
Epic (if applicable to position)
Performance Manager/NetLearning
Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize one or more of the following.
Must read, write, and speak English in an understandable manner.
Must work independently and possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Must effectively communicate and deal tactfully with patients, physicians, customers, and the general public.
Must be flexible, possess personal integrity, and function effectively as a team member.
Must follow written and oral instructions.
Other Requirements:
The candidate must be actively engaged in his/her own recovery program with a minimum of two years demonstrated personal recovery and sustained abstinence from alcohol and/or drug use.
Must read, interpret documents and write routine reports.
Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills; ability to relate to patients and health professionals; good problem‑solving skills; willingness to learn and acquire new skills.
