Position Summary The Sequencing Sales Specialist is a customer‑facing, strategic and technical sales resource for the Illumina Sequencing and multi‑omic product portfolios. You will work as part of a team of account managers to achieve regional sales objectives and closely monitor market and competitor activities.

Responsibilities

Work closely and effectively with a wide array of teams as an overlay sales specialist, including marketing, local Territory Account Managers, Inside Sales reps, other specialists (informatics, microarray, etc.), and District Sales Managers to support them in achieving strategic and revenue goals.

Assist District Sales Manager and Territory Account Managers with the development of customized territory plans each year and quarter, including target markets, overarching strategy, on‑the‑ground sales tactics, and how to approach new customers.

Regularly meet with customers both individually and as part of an Illumina team.

Prepare and present compelling technical seminars on Illumina Sequencing product lines and sequencing applications.

Develop long‑term customer relationships as a trusted consultant, always bringing value to each interaction and connecting customers with internal teams when appropriate.

Ensure the sales team that you are part of is trained on all relevant technical, product, method and application information.

Represent the company professionally, scientifically, and ethically at all times.

Technical Expertise

Leverage technical knowledge to further sales initiatives.

Become an expert on new Illumina innovations and products, often within a few days of launch.

Read, understand, and communicate current scientific and clinical research.

Maintain a broad knowledge of the market environment, competitors, industry trends, and third‑party methods and applications.

Regularly train others in the sales team on products, methods, and markets.

Team Player

Assist with and develop workshops, seminar series, and other marketing activities as required.

Distinguish between regular sales and business development opportunities, involving the correct internal partners as appropriate.

Proactively use and support the expanded network of national and global sequencing specialists.

Coordinate and communicate strategic business plans effectively to managers and internal stakeholders.

Advise internal teams with deep product, customer, market, and application knowledge.

Participate in customer‑facing company events such as conferences, user group meetings and other forums.

Lead without authority, maintain positivity and inspire peers, customers, and collaborators with a passion for Illumina technology.

Your Experience

Technological expert on the majority of relevant Next Generation Sequencing and multi‑omic applications, basic informatics, and the clinical and research sequencing markets.

Customer‑facing sales or support experience in the Life Sciences or Genomics preferred.

Presentation experience; capable of delivering a persuasive message by integrating sales and technical acumen.

Quick learner, able to develop and maintain deep current knowledge of multi‑omics and sequencing applications.

Highly self‑motivated, independent, adaptable, and successful individual who enjoys a challenging and dynamic work environment.

Driven; strong desire to win business and establish long‑term customer relationships.

Team player; reliable individual with excellent time management, organizational and interpersonal skills.

Travel approximately 50% within territory, with some trips outside territory.

Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience.

Education

BA/BS or MS or equivalent degree in Life/Biological Sciences is required.

Ph.D. or Masters in Biological Sciences, Genetics, Genomics, or related field is highly desired. MBA is a plus.

The estimated base salary range for the Senior Sequencing Sales Specialist - Great Lakes role based in the United States of America is: $98,400 - $147,600. Compensation decisions depend on qualifications, location, internal equity, and market data. Eligible employees are also eligible for variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and may receive equity as part of the compensation package. Benefits include genomics sequencing access, family planning, health/dental/vision, retirement benefits, and paid time off.
