Bechtel is the licensing, engineering, procurement, and construction partner on TerraPower’s Natrium team. Selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for its Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program, Natrium is participating in a DOE initiative to re-establish U.S. leadership in nuclear energy that provides matching funding to industry to design and build an operational advanced reactor. TerraPower will be deploying its 345 MWe sodium fast reactor (SFR), called Natrium, with an innovative molten salt energy storage system designed to complement solar and wind power. The Natrium plant can produce more than 500 MWe of power when the reactor and energy storage output are combined. This DOE program has the potential to be the largest funding program for advanced nuclear power in U.S. history and will shape the future of nuclear energy for decades.

Job Summary In this role, you will plan, develop, and review electrical engineering design work, produce drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for a project. You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review key electrical drawings, calculations, and bid summaries. You will solve complex technical issues and ensure electrical designs comply with all regulations and standards. This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.
Major Responsibilities
Electrical Physical Design (and circuit and raceway).
Responsible for raceway design, equipment location and layout, C&R schedule inputting and update, conduit, and aboveground raceway design.
Assists in modeling equipment and commodities used in the electrical design.
Produces drawings and documentation in accordance with established design and scope including design of lighting, communications, grounding layout, grounding designs/calculations, and lightning protection systems.
Ensuring that the electrical system designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
May interface with Construction and Subcontractors.
Capable of independent creative design, with direction, using Bechtel and industry-proven concepts, and procedures.
Ensures Electrical systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards such as the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70).
Extract applicable 3D model data onto 2D sheets, makes proper annotations, and prepares the drawings for construction use.
Performing calculations utilizing AGI 32 for lighting layouts and ETAP for ground grid layouts.
Develop material specifications utilizing the software SpecsIntact.
Education And Experience Requirements
Requires a AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 3-4 years of experience, or in lieu of a degree 5-6 years of relevant work experience.
Basic Qualifications
Must have the legal right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.
Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Minimum Qualifications
Proficient experience in Microsoft Office Suite programs.
Extensive knowledge & application of NEC code and ANSI/IEEE Standards.
Must have proven 2D CADD and 3D skills.
Must have experience with an electronic Cable Management System, such as the SETROUTE program, and be able to input and complete corrections to the database.
Must be able to effectively communicate, and work well with others and within a team.
Must be able to collaborate well with other disciplines.
Ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.
Excellent oral & written communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Hands-on use or classes using in a 3D electrical model design platform and electrical 2D design.
Previous nuclear power plant design experience.
Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.
