About the Role Bolton is seeking an experienced
Senior Consultant
to lead and deliver strategic consulting services across a broad portfolio of
Health & Welfare benefits programs . This role is ideal for a seasoned professional who enjoys partnering with clients, leading teams, and shaping long‑term benefits strategies in a dynamic consulting environment.
As a Senior Consultant, you will serve as a trusted advisor to clients, guiding plan design, financial strategy, vendor negotiations, and implementation – while mentoring junior staff and supporting business development efforts.
What You’ll Do
Serve as the
primary consultant and relationship manager
for assigned client groups
Lead consulting engagements across medical, pharmacy, dental, life, disability, vision, FSA/HSA, voluntary benefits, and reinsurance
Drive
claims analysis, renewal strategy, and financial modeling
to support long‑term client decision‑making
Manage RFPs, vendor searches, and carrier negotiations on behalf of clients
Oversee plan implementations, open enrollment strategies, and employee communications
Present complex financial and compliance topics clearly to client leadership teams
Identify cost drivers, utilization trends, benchmarking insights, and plan design opportunities
Stay current on healthcare marketplace trends, ACA requirements, and regulatory changes
Mentor and develop junior consultants and analysts
Support
client development and growth efforts , including finalist presentations and conferences
Requirements What We’re Looking For Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
15+ years of experience
in health & welfare consulting, brokerage, or carrier environments
Deep expertise in group health plan strategy, pricing, and financial analysis
Proven success managing complex client relationships and multiple projects simultaneously
Strong presentation, communication, and executive‑level consulting skills
Demonstrated experience leading teams and mentoring junior staff
Working knowledge of benefits administration platforms and healthcare compliance (ACA)
Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Preferred Qualifications
CEBS designation or actuarial/underwriting training
Maryland Health & Life license (or ability to obtain within first year)
Maryland Health Exchange Agent/Broker certification (or commitment to obtain)
Travel
Approximately
30% regional travel
