Marketing and Communications Specialist Community Planning and Development

Join the City and County of Denver to fill the Marketing and Communications Specialist role within the Community Planning and Development Department. Location & Schedule

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work on site three days a week and work from home two days a week, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with an hour lunch break. Occasional weekend or evening work may be required. Off?site days must be within the state of Colorado. In this position you will work at the Webb Municipal Building, 201 W. Colfax Ave., on the second floor. What We Offer

Key Responsibilities Include:

Project communications: Strategize, create and post online content and collateral related to long?range planning, landmark preservation, plan review, permitting and inspections, and related projects. Website management: Produce and post content related to CPD services and major projects, manage content update requests from department work teams, and coordinate work of staff web authors. Newsletter/content management: Serve as lead writer and manager of departments external newsletters, and create and maintain a content calendar. Internal communications: Coordinate and support internal communications program for 280 employees, manage a monthly internal newsletter, and support employee engagement events. Media relations: Respond to media inquiries, serve as department spokesperson (including on?camera interviews), build and manage relationships with local news outlets, and identify opportunities for proactive media outreach. CORA/records: Support communications around management of Colorado Open Records Act requests, including webpage and request form, and manage and complete CORA requests as needed.

Specifically, as the Marketing and Communications Specialist, you will:

Work with the communications team to develop strategies, goals and tactics for outreach to the general public as well as specific audiences, internal and external. Develop and implement a variety of promotional, educational and informational communications (may include email newsletters, web content, printed collateral, social media, signage, events, video, etc.). Creatively add to our suite of communications tools by identifying gaps and implementing content strategies to engage new people in city and neighborhood planning. Tailor communication to multiple audiences and by different types of projects. Advise, gain buy?in and build support among CPD work teams for a user?friendly approach to resident and customer communications. Create, maintain and organize web content on www.denvergov.org/CPD to ensure an accurate and current source of information about planning and regulatory initiatives. Work with the communications team to optimize website functionality and user experience. Represent the department at public events, including City Council meetings, community and public meetings, and meetings hosted by other government agencies. Engage with stakeholder groups and others via email, phone and in person on behalf of the department. Write and distribute news releases and media advisories. Manage general media requests and interview inquiries, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and appropriate tone. Act as spokesperson and represent the department to news media, proactively and reactively, including on?camera interviews. Follow department?wide and citywide brand standards. Work effectively and efficiently with internal and external partners.

Qualifications

Exceptional interpersonal and relationship?building skills with stakeholders at all organizational levels. Excellent writing, editing and content management skills with an eye for design for email newsletters, print collateral, websites and other online content. Experience in journalism and/or media relations. Familiarity with governmental processes, managing information requests such as CORA/FOIA and supporting web forms. Efficient time/workmanagement skills, able to multitask under pressure. Proficient with Microsoft Office. Knowledgeable of ADA accessibility rules for electronic communication. Spanish language skills are a plus.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or a related field. Experience requirement: Four (4) years of full performance, professional?level experience performing marketing and/or public relations functionsincluding research and analysis, developing public announcements and publications, and developing marketing/PR strategies. Education/Experience equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post?high?school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
