Contract Personal Injury Paralegal
Location: Hybrid, Phoenix, AZ (Deer Valley, I-17 & Greenway)
Contract Type: Independent Contractor (1099)
Hours: As needed, flexible schedule
Compensation: Competitive, based on experience
About The Role We are seeking an experienced Personal Injury Paralegal to support a busy personal injury and medical-legal practice on a contract basis. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail oriented, and comfortable handling PI matters from intake through settlement support. This role is best suited for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can work independently, and can step in with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Draft and prepare medical summaries, expert reports, and case-related legal requests.
Prepare medical chronologies and causation timelines for attorney review and expert support.
Prepare correspondence to insurance carriers and defense counsel.
Draft subpoena responses, including subpoenas duces tecum.
Prepare objections and response support for deposition and records requests, including Rule 30(b)(6) topics as applicable.
Review subpoenas for scope, deadlines, and compliance requirements.
Prepare and maintain expert disclosure files, including CVs, fee schedules, prior testimony lists, and supporting materials
Assist with discovery support, including organization of records for Requests for Production, interrogatories, and trial exhibits
Ensure compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality requirements when handling protected health information and legal records.
Calendar depositions and related deadlines.
Coordinate scheduling for treating providers, expert physicians, and ancillary staff for protected time blocks.
Assist in preparing physicians for testimony, including expert and subpoenaed appearances, in person or virtually.
Coordinate billing for legal requests and confirm payment prior to scheduling when required.
Track outstanding invoices and follow up as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of experience as a Personal Injury Paralegal, pre-litigation experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of PI processes, terminology, and documentation requirements.
Working knowledge of subpoenas, subpoenas duces tecum, and deposition scheduling.
Familiarity with Rule 30(b)(6) procedures and topic-based discovery.
Strong understanding of medical records and terminology, especially orthopedics, spine, and pain management.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
High level of professionalism and discretion.
Preferred Skills
Bilingual English and Spanish preferred.
Experience negotiating and resolving medical liens.
Experience coordinating expert witness scheduling and document preparation.
Work Location This is a hybrid role. Our headquarters is located in Deer Valley near I-17 and Greenway in Phoenix. The contractor must be available to come into the office when needed for time-sensitive or high-priority tasks.
