Director of Golf Operations Located in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin’s celebrated resort town, Destination Geneva National is a premier golf and resort community featuring three championship courses by Palmer, Player, and Trevino, exceptional lodging, dining, and a high-touch member experience. A key leadership role for a proven golf professional, the Director of Golf leads and elevates all aspects of GN’s golf operation and is responsible for delivering an exceptional golf experience for members and guests through strong operational oversight, team development, and innovative programming.
Key Responsibilities
Represent Destination Geneva National as a polished professional ambassador in the local, regional and national community
Offer friendly and professional customer service to all public patrons, members and their guests, as well as GN associates
Ensure all public/member/guest rounds, merchandise sales are being properly accounted for and billed by golf shop operations
Ensure that financial controls are followed and accurate for the close of each daily shift
Work closely with Head Professionals and Course Superintendents to coordinate all public and member tournaments, event and outing preparations and golf operations from start to finish
Oversee/direct all merchandising operations: planning, ordering, receiving, pricing, displaying and end-of-month review
Oversee/evaluate with Head Professionals the hiring/training of Player Services staff including starters and course assistants with a strong emphasis on Pace of Play culture
Oversee/evaluate with Head Professionals the hiring/training of assistant golf professionals and golf shop attendants, H2B staff
Play with members and guests, potential members or event personnel, and customers when possible
Evaluate member leagues/events for profitability and effectiveness – analyze budgets and green fee development
Make sure all member tee time rules and guidelines are being applied correctly
Give golf lessons and conduct golf clinics for members, guests and outside groups, provide support for independent contractor teaching professional
Oversee the planning and coordination of future member/public event dates, demo days, etc.
Answer/direct incoming phone calls in a professional and courteous manner as needed
Enter, Sign and Approve purchase orders and invoices related to golf operations
Analyze P&L performance and develop strategies for improvement working with all departments
Analyze business opportunities in order to grow revenues and profits, increase memberships and events – develop reports/spreadsheets as needed to track
Continuously seek opportunities to educate and motivate all staff members in the golf operation while creating a work environment that promotes teamwork
Create a professional and enjoyable environment for our members and guests, and GN associates to enjoy
Be informed on, and promote all public and member events, activities and services
Uphold the companies policies and procedures when dealing with customers and members and staff
Perform additional duties as assigned by the COO
Supportive Functions
Gather/share member/guest/outing comments with appropriate departments
Attend/hold staff meetings on a regular basis to maintain teamwork atmosphere
Coordinate with Grounds Maintenance, and F&B when required for events and activities
Coordinate with Accounting Dept. to make sure proper procedures are being implemented and followed
Coordinate with Head Professionals on all operational procedures to maintain efficiency and level of service
Coordinate with Head Professionals and Sales on group events
Represent Geneva National at community/local meetings/groups as an ambassador
Qualifications
PGA Professional with 7 years minimum experience
Business, supervisory, and extensive leadership ability/skills
Computer knowledge/usage and golf industry tech savvy
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of the game of golf and playing ability
Knowledge of the golf swing and teaching experience
Knowledge of golf tournament/event coordination, equipment, and merchandising operations

Ability to relate to all associates and function in a team environment
Ability to apply and train entire golf operation with customer service and work skills
Ability to assist with guest, member, and staff issues/problems
Ability to anticipate guest/member needs in every situation
Ability to play golf in a competent manner

Ability to multi-task and delegate responsibilities as needed

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
Available (by phone if necessary) 24 hours for staff support
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours during event/peak days).
Ability to lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 25 pounds occasionally.
Frequent walking on uneven terrain.
Ability to drive a golf cart and operate related course equipment safely.
Occasional bending, stooping, and reaching.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Sufficient visual acuity and hearing.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, over the radio, by email, and on the phone with staff, guests, and members.
Must be able to remain on site for extended work hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays during peak season.
