Position : Museum Director, Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens (Administrator, Morikami Park)
Location: Morikami Park Road, Delray Beach, 33224
Department: Parks & Recreation | Division: Special Facilities Administration
Hours: 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday – Friday, including various nights, weekends, and holidays
Salary: $91,765 Annually

Responsibilities The Museum Director provides strong institutional leadership, collaborates with the Board of County Commissioners, and plans, organizes, and directs all museum operations. Specific responsibilities include:
Oversee daily operations and financial management of the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, as well as Morikami, Inc.
Develop short-, mid-, and long-range goals and objectives.
Establish performance measures to assess progress and outcomes.
Ensure adherence to professional museum practices and policies.
Foster a cooperative and productive relationship between Palm Beach County and Morikami, Inc.
Work under the general supervision of the Director of Special Facilities and evaluate performance based on efficiency, policy adherence, and results.
Qualifications This position requires one of the following combinations of education and experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Art, Social Sciences, Museum Studies, Business Administration, or related field; minimum of five (5) years of responsible supervisory experience planning and directing the operations of a museum, historical site, or facility-based operation
An unrelated Bachelor’s Degree; minimum of seven (7) years of responsible supervisory experience planning and directing the operations of a museum, historical site, or facility-based operation
An Associate’s Degree in Art, Social Sciences, Museum Studies or Business, or related field; minimum of seven (7) years of responsible supervisory experience planning and directing the operations of a museum, historical site, or facility-based operation
Graduation from high school or equivalent; minimum of nine (9) years of responsible supervisory experience planning and directing the operations of a museum, historical site, or facility-based operation
Preferred qualifications
include: Master’s Degree in Museum Science, Japanese Studies, or Asian Studies; professional or curatorial experience in Japanese history, language and culture; experience in administration or management of an AAM-accredited museum; experience managing a museum operation of 50+ employees; and experience managing a museum budget of at least $3 million annually.
