Technical Analyst

Our technical practice provides the backbone of Gartner infrastructure and operations (I&O) research by identifying, influencing and sharing best practices, hype and pitfalls across the service lifecycle, both in the public cloud and on-premises. This analyst role is part of the Gartner for I&O Technical Professionals team and will have a particular scope of coverage focused on modern IT operations, such as cloud governance, cloud operations, and cloud operating models. You will have some flexibility in your coverage, and we are particularly interested in candidates with cloud architecture, cloud governance, or platform engineering experience. Further specifics of coverage and scope are provided in subsequent sections below. What You'll Do:

You will write research and directly engage with clients, applying your in-depth knowledge of cloud infrastructure and platform engineering technologies, technical capabilities of products/services, and governance best practices. You will advise clients on architecting, implementing and operating: Cloud strategy and implementation plans for enterprise cloud adoption with public cloud services. Governance of public cloud services and organizational operating models. Infrastructure-as-Code and Self-Service practices and tools. AI usage and inclusion in cloud operations Experience with VMware virtualization or private cloud is also an advantage. Experience with hybrid cloud implementation or migration from on-premises to public cloud environments is an advantage. Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% (where applicable) Who You Are:

Gartner is seeking an experienced technical professional who ideally has previous hands-on experience in a modern cloud operations role. 12+ years experience in an architect-level role at a mid-sized to large enterprise, focused on cloud, platform engineering, DevOps or SRE. Experience in a technical lead role within a cloud managed service provider (MSP) delivery team. Experience in a technical product management role at a cloud provider, MSP, or IT operations management vendor. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. To be successful in this role, the technical professional needs: Credible technical expertise in the topics they cover, with the ability to connect technology to business goals, and understand the commercial aims of vendors. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write long-form content (15+ page white papers), and develop and deliver presentations to audiences of varying sizes. Strong analytical skills, including the ability to rapidly absorb and concisely summarize information and opinions, detect patterns, and "think on your feet". You must have expertise and expertise in at least one of these areas: Cloud-native operations for IaaS and PaaS in a major hyperscale public cloud provider, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud. Implementing well-governed developer self-service in a major hyperscale cloud provider. Cloud-optimized workload migration to IaaS and PaaS in a major hyperscale cloud provider, with highly-automated operations. Governance of public cloud services Expertise and experience in the following areas is advantageous: Collaborating with Security technical professionals for DevSecOps. Cross-functional collaboration with architects and other technical leaders of product teams or application teams. Communicating with senior management, ideally including not only IT management but also business executives. Working as part of a digital-native team, or as part of a digital transformation team within an enterprise. DevOps platforms and CI/CD pipeline tools, and infrastructure as code. Kubernetes operations.
