1700 Hours Purpose: Stewards Individual Placements, a division of Conservation Legacy, provides individuals with AmeriCorps service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural and cultural resources.
The NPS Communications and Community Engagement (CACE) team supports national parks and programs within the National Capital Region (NCR) by providing guidance and technical expertise in several areas. The digital communications program within CACE provides subject matter expertise to help parks create innovative and informative experiences online for all. The National Capital Region of the National Park Service serves approximately 55 million locals and visitors from around the world that come to the National Capital Region national parks for inspiration, relaxation, exercise and fun.
Stewards Individual Placements, in partnership with the National Capital Region's Communications and Community Engagement team, is seeking a Digital Communications (Photography/Videography) Fellow who will serve a vital role in media production for public-facing websites, apps, and social media used by the NPS. The Fellow will primarily capture and publish compelling images and videos of the people, resources, and recreation opportunities.
Description of Duties: The Digital Communications Fellow will be responsible for the technical aspects of digital media production. Finished work will be published to public-facing products including NPS.gov, the NPS app, approved social media platforms, and physical products such as posters and waysides. To achieve these goals, duties include:
Collecting photos and videos o Responsible for planning and executing photo/video shoots in national parks throughout the greater Washington, DC in alignment with goals set forth by the Communications and Community Engagement team
Managing photos and videos o Responsible for reviewing, editing, and filing images and video files according to established metadata standards and DOI/NPS publishing guidelines
Publishing photos and videos to NPS.gov o Responsible for publishing content including photos, photo essays, videos, and other multimedia tools to NPS.gov, for public use
Teamwork and collaboration o Coordinate with team members and clients in the national parks to identify, plan, and execute photography that advances NPS communications goals for 2026
Qualifications:
Be a United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien Be between the ages of 18 - 30, or up to age 35 with Veteran status Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check Commitment of 49 weeks of AmeriCorps service Must be willing to drive department vehicles and possess a valid driver's license with an insurable driving history Effective communication skills Bachelor's degree in a field related to visual media, photography, videography, photojournalism, fine arts, communications, or similar fields Preferred Qualifications:

Time Requirements:
Typically, this position is expected to serve Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm, but exact service schedules may vary. A lunch break will not be counted towards AmeriCorps service

Orientation and Training:
Members will receive an orientation that includes training on AmeriCorps prohibited and unallowable activities Orientation to the National Park Service, and National Capital Region Communication Team Training on specific photo/video equipment (some photo/video skills required) Training on NPS Content Management System Training on Communication and Community Engagement office standards and practices Benefits:
Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $7395 Stipend of $900 a week (pre-tax, paid bi-weekly)
Includes $700 for Living Allowance + $200 for Additional Benefits
$2565 available in Professional Development and mileage reimbursement AmeriCorps Health Insurance Coverage

Evaluation and Reporting: As an AmeriCorps member, performance will be evaluated on whether the member has completed the required number of hours, the member has satisfactorily completed assignments, and if the member has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service. Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets and accomplishment tracking.
