Community Engagement Specialist (Hourly Contractor)

Hourly rate - $20/hr (Part time)

Location: Lynchburg, VA and surrounding service area

Company: Davis Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electrical Reports To: General Manager (Davis) Employment Type: Contract / Hourly (1099 or W-2 Part-Time Contractor, per company preference)

Schedule: Primarily evenings/weekends; some weekday coordination hours

Primary Goal: Increase brand presence and community goodwill through strategic participation in family-focused and youth sports/community events.

1) Position Overview

Davis Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electrical is seeking a contract-based Community Engagement Specialist to identify, coordinate, and represent Davis at local community events, with a strong focus on family, military, veteran-centered activities, local youth sports, high school & university athletics, minor league sports team, and neighborhood events in and around Lynchburg.

This role is responsible for building community visibility and strengthening relationships with schools, leagues, parent groups, and community organizations. The Specialist will ensure Davis is present at the right events, with professional on-site representation and follow-through to capture engagement opportunities (e.g., sponsorship needs, booth opportunities, lead capture, and community partnerships).

2) Key Responsibilities

A. Event Identification & Outreach

• Work with General Manager to identify and evaluate events aligned with Davis' brand goals (youth sports, high school games, tournaments, family events, school/community festivals).

• Build an annual/seasonal community event calendar with recommended priorities.

• Support General Manager in establishing and maintaining relationships with event organizers, athletic directors, booster clubs, league reps, and community leaders.

• Present event participation opportunities to the GM/Marketing Lead for approval (as needed).

B. Event Coordination & Logistics

• Coordinate event participation, including booth space, setup needs, giveaways, banners, promotional items, and staff participation.

• Ensure Davis branding is consistent and professionally represented at all events.

• Collaborate with internal marketing (or designated Davis team member) to ensure messaging, collateral, and materials are ready.

C. On-Site Representation

• Attend assigned events as the Davis representative.

• Engage families, homeowners, and community members in friendly conversation to build awareness and trust.

• Promote Davis offerings (heating, cooling, plumbing, electrical) in a community-friendly way (non-aggressive; education-first).

• Support lead capture efforts (raffle, QR code signups, newsletter list, free inspection promo, etc.) based on approved tactics.

D. Reporting & Results Tracking

• Provide post-event summaries including:

o Number of interactions (estimated)

o Leads collected or QR signups (if used)

o Community feedback and key conversations

o Future opportunities identified (sponsorships, partnerships, next events)

• Maintain a running engagement report and hours log.

3) Ideal Candidate Profile

Required:

• Experience with event coordination, community outreach, field marketing, or brand ambassador roles.

• Strong interpersonal skills; comfortable speaking with families and homeowners.

• Organized, proactive, and dependable; able to manage event schedules and communications.

• Comfortable working evenings/weekends and being "the face" of Davis at local events.

• Reliable transportation.

Preferred:

• Familiarity with Lynchburg-area community organizations, youth leagues, or schools.

• Previous experience in home services marketing, brand ambassador work, or community sponsorship activation.

• Basic comfort using simple lead capture methods (QR forms, raffles, sign-up sheets).
