Job Title: Inside Sales Representative – Steel Service Center Location:
Gary, IN (On-site) We are seeking an experienced Inside Sales Representative to support customer accounts and drive sales within our steel service center operation. This role is responsible for quoting, order entry, customer communication, and supporting outside sales while ensuring accuracy, responsiveness, and strong customer relationships in a fast-paced steel environment. Responsibilities
Handle inbound customer calls and emails regarding pricing, availability, and lead times Prepare and follow up on quotes for flat-rolled, plate, or long products Enter and manage sales orders accurately in ERP systems Maintain ongoing relationships with OEMs, fabricators, and end users Support outside sales representatives with pricing, order status, and customer needs Coordinate with production, purchasing, and logistics on material availability and deliveries Proactively upsell value-added services such as processing, cutting, or packaging Resolve order issues including shortages, delays, or quality concerns Maintain accurate customer, pricing, and order data Qualifications
2+ years of inside sales experience in a steel service center or metals distribution environment Strong understanding of steel products (coil, sheet, plate, bar, tubing, etc.) Familiarity with gauges, grades, widths, lengths, and tolerances Experience quoting steel pricing and working with mill lead times Strong phone presence and customer service mindset Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple accounts and orders Proficient in ERP systems and Microsoft Office Preferred Experience
Experience with flat-rolled carbon steel (hot rolled, cold rolled, galvanized) Knowledge of value-added processing (slitting, cut-to-length, leveling, shearing) Background supporting outside sales or managing house accounts Office-based role within a steel service center Regular interaction with operations, purchasing, and logistics teams
