Provide mechanical design for medium voltage switchgear and power distribution systems up to 38kV, conduct technical analysis and /or resolution of electrical engineering problems. Provide technical support to other electrical engineers, designers, manufacturing plants, and field service teams. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Design and develop electrical medium voltage switchgear and components using DFx. Ensure designs comply with IEEE C37.20.2, IEEE 37.20.3, IEEE 37.20.7, IEC 62271-200, NEC, NEMA, UL and other applicable standards. Perform Mechanical analysis and simulations (FEA) to validate designs. Collaborate with Electrical Engineers to integrate electrical and mechanical systems. Create detailed mechanical drawings and specifications. Conduct DFMEA, prototype testing and validation as well as oversee high-voltage and high-power testing. Support manufacturing and assembly processes and support PFMEA creation. Participate in design reviews and provide technical guidance. Design mechanical layouts, proposals, specifications, and drawings for medium voltage systems. Select/design components taking into consideration cost, maintenance and reliability of the system. Possess strong understanding of medium voltages systems, switchgear and power distribution equipment. Perform tasks associated with the design and engineering of automated switchgear, control systems for Medium voltage electrical power systems in strict compliance with company engineering processes, quality procedures and design standards. Prepare technical submittals to include layout drawings, sequence of operations, Bill of Materials, wiring schematics, test procedures to meet customer approvals. Work with project management on scope of work and timelines for project completion. Generate detailed design and drawing documents and parts list for manufacturing. Stay technically acquainted with production methods, cost estimating procedures, new development technologies, materials, etc. Review mechanical drawings and specifications in order to prepare submittals and project quotations that are on budget and on spec. Maintain an excellent working relationship with customers, vendors and other departments within SAI Occasional weekend and/or evening work and travel to jobsites. BS or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with concentration from an accredited engineering school required. +3 years experience as an Mechanical Engineer in Medium Voltage Switchgear design. Knowledge and Skills
Understand UL Standards, NEC, IEEE, IEC and NEMA Standards and their application to power distribution equipment preferred. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues during the design and testing phases. Knowledge of electrical components. Self-motivated and problem-solving skills a must. Quality consciousness and attention to detail at every phase of the product from design to delivery Proficient in AutoCAD Mechanical and Pro E Mechanical design software and Microsoft 365. Articulate verbal and written communication skills required with the ability to prepare written specifications and review contractual documents. Must be able to read, write and converse fluently in English with the level of competency that will permit the applicant to function in the position (i.e., facilitate meetings, collaborate with colleagues, and customers through in-person or virtual meetings, quotes, contracts, submittals and email communication). 401(k) Health insurance Life insurance Paid time off Vision insurance Schedule
