Sr Executive Communications Specialist
– Position Details Department: CORP | Communication Services Location: Phoenix Shift: Mon-Fri, Days, 8am-5pm Category: Administrative Support Posting #: 995978 Employee Type: Full-Time The Senior Executive Communications Specialist is a dynamic strategist and skilled storyteller who drives the voice and visibility of the President/CEO of Phoenix Children’s. This role is key in positioning the President/CEO as a national leader in pediatric health, a trusted advocate for children and families, and a visionary organizational leader. Reporting to the Director of Communications within the Marketing & Communications department and working closely with the President/CEO’s Chief of Staff, the Senior Executive Communications Specialist develops and executes multi-channel communication strategies that amplify the President/CEO`s thought leadership and organizational priorities with internal and external audiences.
Position Duties
Speechwriting and Presentation Development
Conceptualizes, researches, conducts interviews and writes various communication materials for different audiences.
Communicates information of a highly complex nature in a clear, precise, and compelling way through speeches and presentations.
Creates and uses tools to measure and monitor the effectiveness of communications activities.
Coordinates topics and messaging with Chief of Staff, public relations, marketing leadership, Foundation, government affairs and other key departments in order to prioritize messages and ensure material is consistent with Phoenix Children’s branding and positioning.
Monitors and analyzes developments and major issues pertaining to pediatric health systems, academic medical centers and the business of health care to ensure that these topics are appropriately addressed and articulated.
Creates corresponding briefing documents as needed for President/CEO’s speaking engagements. Ensures briefings for all of the President/CEO’s speaking engagements accurately reflect information discussed during remark preparation.
Strategic Communications and Stakeholder Engagement
Builds relationships with key stakeholders and develops and maintains strong working relationships with departments to ensure consistent content, messaging and timing of communications.
Serves as a consultant to President/CEO and other executives, recommending and implementing communications strategies and tactics to meet team`s goals and enhance Phoenix Children`s strategic goals.
Develops and sustains contacts with subject matter experts to include peers, physicians, nurses, other staff members and constituents.
Ensures that all remarks and other public statements prepared for the President/CEO, including those prepared by other offices, are accurate, fact-checked and copy edited.
Accompanies President/CEO, when appropriate, to speaking engagements and/or attends speaking engagements on a regular basis. Provides feedback to the President/CEO.
Assists with the response to crisis situations to develop messages and communicate to a variety of internal and external audiences.
Assists with written and digital President/CEO correspondence as requested, including weekly newsletter.
Supports President/CEO visibility by coordinating and preparing for media interviews, securing placements, and amplifying earned media coverage across internal and external channels.
Creates, manages, and executes a content calendar for the President/CEO’s LinkedIn and Instagram channels. Closely collaborates with the system Social Media colleagues to align plans with brand content where appropriate.
Thought Leadership
Develops topics working in conjunction with Chief of Staff, public relations teams, and government affairs.
Writes, edits, and produces a variety of letters to the editor, articles, videos, blogs, digital content and other communications to further position Phoenix Children’s as a leading voice in pediatric health care nationally.
Determines distribution methods and works with media outlets and journalists to place pieces.
Identifies and explores new avenues to effectively communicate the President/CEO’s message to appropriate audiences, such as social media, videos, photos, podcasts, biogs, etc.
Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

Position Qualifications Education
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or related field.
Experience
Five (5) or more years of experience in a corporate or executive communications role.
Previous experience in executive speech writing. A work portfolio will be requested.
Media relations experience with a track record of placing stories in national and regional outlets.
Experience in a health care system, science, or medical institution.
Special Skills
Ability to write clear, compelling prose in different styles, voices, and tones to effectively communicate to multiple audiences.
Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.
Ability to work autonomously and offer solutions to problems.
Consistently able to display independent thinking and assume responsibility for projects.
Display sound judgment and ability to make independent decisions guided by the business goals of the department and organization.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize workload.
Knowledge of MS Office and HTML email platforms. Proficient with PowerPoint or other presentation tools.
Familiarity with social media platforms, especially LinkedIn and Instagram, and best practices.
Ability to identify content trends and best practices to generate new ideas.
