SUMMARY OBJECTIVE The purpose of this position is: The AI Product Lead drives the discovery, design, and delivery of high‑impact AI solutions across Louisville Metro Government agencies. The role leads cross‑agency intake, scoping, and prioritization of AI use cases; manages pilots with internal and vendor teams; and ensures AI investments deliver measurable improvements in service delivery, efficiency, and equity, while ensuring security and risk are managed. This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Leads intake, discovery, and scoping of AI opportunities with departments; documents pain points, business objectives, and success criteria.

Provides key inputs into the prioritization of AI use cases based on impact, feasibility, equity, risk, and alignment with Mayor’s, Council and Metro agency priorities.

Translates operational needs into clear user stories, functional requirements, and pilot charters for internal and vendor teams.

Manages the end‑to‑end pilot lifecycle—timeline, budget, vendor coordination, internal partners and resources, testing, and launch—for AI solutions in key domains (e.g., permitting, FOIA, 311, safety).

Facilitates demos, user acceptance testing, and feedback sessions; iterates on pilots to improve usability, accuracy, and workflow fit.

Tracks pilot performance, ROI, and service outcomes; develops dashboards and reports for the CAIO, CIO, Mayor’s Office, and Metro Council.

Identifies and resolves cross‑agency blockers and dependencies; ensures alignment with data, security, and IT standards.

Coordinates with Procurement, Legal, IT Security, and department leadership on project charters, SOWs, SLAs, and risk mitigations.

Develops reusable playbooks, templates, and checklists for AI opportunity assessment, pilot design, and scale‑out.

Represents Louisville Metro in select external meetings and knowledge‑sharing forums related to AI product delivery and civic innovation.

Assesses emerging and deployed AI capabilities and solutions, engaging early in experimentation, testing and integration to drive operational efficiency and innovation.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, Design, or a related field.

Three (3) years of professional experience in product management, service design, management consulting, civic technology, or similar roles leading cross‑functional technology projects, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

Must submit to fingerprinting for criminal history check.

Must complete the annual security awareness training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS Sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis; or sustained keyboard operations.
