
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Tax Preparer

The VITA Tax Preparer is responsible for preparing current year tax returns using Tax Wise software for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site, while ensuring that services provided are in alignment with the Social Determinants of Health through a trauma informed care lens as defined by the agency. VITA is one of the nation’s largest volunteer-led free tax preparation service assisting low to moderate income families and individuals.
Essential Functions:
Prepare tax returns for eligible clients; and provide tax counseling to VITA clients regarding tax law and credits (specifically earned income and child tax credits). Greet arriving clients and answer basic tax questions for clients. Conduct research on tax questions/issues related to client returns; confer with and assist co-workers on tax questions. Refer clients appropriately to external and internal support services (e.g., informing clients about other services such as SAVE USA). Attend general staff meetings and trainings as required. Maintain good relationships with stakeholders (including current and potential clients, community and co-workers), focusing on providing excellent and culturally sensitive customer service and presenting a positive image of the agency in all community and stakeholder interactions. Maintain a working environment which encourages mutual respect, promotes respectful and congenial relationships between employees and is free from all forms of harassment. Perform other duties as assigned, including presentations to community groups and organizations, in accordance with the agency’s “team” philosophy. REQUIRED CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:
Certificate or license, as applicable, by the appropriate State agency as a qualified practitioner. State of Texas vehicle operator’s license and proof of liability insurance. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
