About this position We are looking for a highly experienced Advisor/Senior Advisor, Executive Communications professional to support the positioning of the IDB President and the IDB Group.
This role sits at the core of the institution’s strategic communications function, shaping how global economic, policy and development priorities are framed and understood. The Senior Advisor will distill complex issues into clear, influential narratives that advance institutional objectives and support senior leadership in engaging effectively with key stakeholders and global audiences. This position reports to the Head of the Executive Communications group within the Communications Division of the External Affairs and Communication Department and will be working closely with the Division’s Chief, the Office of the Presidency, the IDB Group’s Executive Team, and senior stakeholders across the institution.
What you’ll do
Shape and support the President’s public positioning across speeches, blogs, talking points, op-eds, background briefs, white papers, interviews, and commentary, providing clear, compelling writing and rigorous editorial support.
Serve as a senior thought partner to the President and Executive Team on economic, financial, and development narratives.
Translate technical analysis into clear, credible messages for policymakers, investors, media, and institutional partners.
Work in close coordination with the Division Chief and the corporate communications team to ensure consistent messaging and strategic alignment across the Office of the Presidency, operational teams, and the IDB Group’s Executive team.
Maintain active awareness of global economic, financial, political, and development trends to anticipate positioning opportunities and risks.
Identify key global and regional platforms, media moments, and policy windows to advance the President’s and IDB Group’s strategic agenda.
Contribute to positioning the IDB Group as a trusted voice on macroeconomic, development finance, and regional issues.
Direct the planning, coordination, and execution of the social media content calendar to support institutional priorities across all platforms.
Ensure all communications products reflect high-quality writing, strong editorial coherence, and consistent message discipline across platforms and formats.
What you’ll need
Education: You must hold a master’s degree or equivalent education in economics, international relations, public policy, journalism, communications, or related fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
Experience: At least seven (7) years of experience for a Senior Advisor or six (6) years for an Advisor, preferably ten (10) years of relevant and progressive substantive experience in one or more of the following areas, economic or financial journalism, public policy and strategic communications, development finance, international institutions, or government, and corporate or institutional strategy in global or financial contexts.
Proven track record of operating at senior levels, advising leaders, and producing high-impact content for complex policy and economic environments.
Demonstrated ability to engage credibly with senior policymakers, economists, investors, and media.
Demonstrated experience in strategic communications, including crafting clear, compelling messages for senior leadership and diverse audiences.
Excellent writing and editing skills.
Content & thought leadership: Strong portfolio of written and verbal work addressing economic, financial, or development issues, including policy commentary, analysis, speeches, or published media.
Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Type of contract and duration
International: International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
