
Role Summary
Senior Director, Business Development leads deal architecture and negotiations for partnering opportunities aligned with corporate initiatives. He/she presents analyses to internal teams and senior management. Located in Bellevue, WA or Vancouver, BC, with hybrid work requiring a minimum of 3 days onsite.
Responsibilities
- On a project-by-project basis, provide partnering and project management skills through the entire deal-making process to secure and implement attractive deals.
- Develop partnering structures tailored to the profile of each envisioned collaboration.
- Propose deal terms and negotiation strategy to senior management.
- Drive contribution from various functions to develop robust business cases and derive clear recommendations.
- Identify and resolve issues promptly, gather and analyze information, and escalate to senior management quickly.
- Collaborate with BD leadership and senior management to understand priorities, drive alignment, and communicate project updates.
- Prepare comprehensive presentations/memos to facilitate decision making at governance deal committees.
- Monitor the external business environment and maintain knowledge of licensing transactions and partnering activities.
- Build and strengthen a broad industry network to facilitate deal making.
- Maintain relationships with partners post-deal through alliance management activities.
- Represent the company at scientific, investor, and partnering conferences.
- Lead by example to foster an environment of effective and collaborative working relationships.
Qualifications
- Required: Post-graduate degree (Pharm D, MD, PhD) and a minimum of 10 years’ related experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preferred: Track record in business development, preferably with sell-side experience in oncology and autoimmune diseases.
- Expertise building detailed valuation models and presentations, experience with term sheets and contract negotiations.
- Proven interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage concurrent deliverables in a milestone-driven environment.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, develop, and empower teams.
- Experience leading strategic planning processes in a complex cross-functional environment, with or without direct authority.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate roadblocks and map next steps.
- Successful track record in BD: developing, negotiating, and securing licensing, partnership, and acquisition deals from term to closure.
- Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, drug development process, trends, and competitive landscape.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and influential skills; ability to articulate strategic objectives to senior leaders.
