Reports to: Director, Product Management, CoinDesk
Position Overview
CoinDesk, a Bullish company, is the leading global media, events, and information services company for the digital asset economy. We are seeking a Senior Product Manager, Editorial Systems & Tooling to serve as the chief advocate for our most critical internal user base: our newsroom.
In this role, you will own the roadmap for our content management system (Sanity) and the suite of tools used to publish our award-winning journalism. This is a high-visibility role that sits at the intersection of technology and storytelling. You will move between technical optimization, ensuring our headless CMS is stable and scalable, and future-forward innovation, leading the charge on how we leverage AI (LLMs) to make our editors faster, sharper, and more efficient.
You will not just be building features; you will be evolving the culture of a newsroom, partnering closely with editorial leadership to implement workflows that blend journalistic integrity with cutting-edge efficiency.
Responsibilities
CMS Strategy & Stewardship
- Serve as the product owner for the Sanity CMS. Define and execute a roadmap that balances immediate stability/optimization needs with long-term architectural improvements.
- Audit the "life of a story" from pitch to publish. Identify friction points in the editorial workflow and solve them through schema updates, UI improvements or automation.
- Act as the bridge between the newsroom and engineering. Translate complex editorial needs into clear technical requirements and conversely, explain technical constraints to non-technical stakeholders.
- Treat the CMS as a core platform product; ensure the content schema and API responses are structured to support the dynamic needs of the consumer-facing product teams building the CoinDesk website and mobile app.
- Own the strategy for content syndication, managing the development and maintenance of RSS/MRSS feeds to ensure seamless delivery to third-party partners and compliance with commercial distribution agreements.
- Manage the roadmap for language translations and localization, ensuring our CMS can seamlessly support CoinDesk’s international expansion and multi-language publishing.
AI & Innovation Leadership
- Spearhead the integration of LLMs into the editorial workflow. Identify high-leverage opportunities for AI assistance, such as auto-tagging, language translation, headline ideation, image selection, summarization, copy-editing support and deeper topic/idea generation.
- Get hands-on with AI tools to prototype solutions before they go to engineering. Champion a "human-in-the-loop" approach where AI empowers editors.
Change Management & Newsroom Partnership
- Embed yourself with the newsroom. Attend editorial meetings and standups to deeply understand the pressures of a breaking news environment.
- You won’t just ship features; you will ensure they are used. Lead training sessions, create documentation, and manage the "people side" of rolling out new tools to ensure high adoption rates.
- Champion a data-driven newsroom by integrating product usage metrics with content performance data, creating a feedback loop that improves both tool adoption and story success.
- Establish rigorous feedback loops with editors to ensure our tooling evolves in lockstep with the changing landscape of digital media.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of Product Management experience, with a specific focus on internal tools, CMS platforms or editorial systems.
- Deep familiarity with modern, headless CMS architectures. You understand the difference between structured content and distinct presentation layers.
- You don’t just read about AI; you use it. You have a functional understanding of how LLMs work and a vision for how they apply to text-based workflows.
- Experience using analytics tools like Amplitude, Google Analytics, and Parse.ly to drive decision making. You use data to validate hypotheses about user behavior and prioritize your roadmap.
- While you don’t need to be an engineer, you must be "tech-fluent." You are comfortable reading API documentation, looking at JSON data structures, and discussing data models with engineers.
- Experience working alongside an SEO function to optimize a business.
- Demonstrated success in rolling out new technology to non-technical teams. You have high emotional intelligence and know how to navigate resistance to change.
- Ability to synthesize complex ideas. You can speak "developer" to engineers and "journalist" to editors.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic organization where priorities can change frequently.
- Experience working in a distributed organization.
Extra Points
- You consider yourself a Sanity expert.
- You’ve developed AB testing patterns in the content space.
- Previous experience working inside a media company, publisher, or journalism outfit. You understand the urgency of a "breaking news" ticker.
- You bring a problem solving mindset to the table at all times! No problem is too big.
- Passion for the digital asset industry, a proactive approach to learning, and a keen interest in staying up-to-date with the latest trends and developments.
Compensation & EEO
