Celebrating 37 years, Alonzo King LINES Ballet (LINES) is part of the cultural fabric of San Francisco and known around the globe for its impact on shaping the future of ballet and dance education. Founded by visionary choreographer Alonzo King, the organization has been recognized for its world-premiere performances featuring unique collaborations and transformative education programs that nurture creativity, self-discovery, empathy, and risk-taking.

The Associate Director of Development (Assoc. DoD) is an integral member of the LINES Development team. You will work in close collaboration with the Director of Development (DoD) to develop, manage, and execute development strategies with a focus on institutional giving. The Assoc. DoD identifies and solicits corporate, foundation, and government funders, and manages institutional reporting and stewardship. Strong candidates will have excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of fundraising practices and principles, and a high level of attention to detail combined with the ability to be flexible, take initiative, and work collaboratively.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Institutional Giving
Identify corporate, foundation, and government funding partners whose philanthropy aligns with organizational priorities
Develop grant applications, proposals, and interim and final reports in collaboration with finance, education, and artistic teams
Oversee fulfillment of institutional benefits and accurate sponsor recognition
Lead the creation of stewardship events and reports that communicate funders’ philanthropic impact
Individual Donors
Support DoD in researching individual prospects whose philanthropic interests align with LINES’ mission
Manage two annual direct mail solicitations following San Francisco Home Seasons
Collaborate on project-specific campaigns supporting robust education and community programs and unique artistic collaborations
Departmental Leadership and Support
Represent LINES in interactions with donors, patrons, and community members
Work closely with marketing staff to develop fundraising materials
Participate in the development, planning, and execution of special events
Attend LINES Ballet performances during bi-annual home seasons (spring and fall)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Excellent fundraising track record (3+ years) with grants and proposal writing experience
Passionate about LINES Ballet’s mission
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills

The Associate Director of Development at Alonzo King LINES Ballet is a key member of the Development Team and contributes relational and fundraising skills to support the work of the Director of Development (DoD) and all fundraising efforts at LINES Ballet. This includes working in close collaboration with the DoD to develop, manage, and execute strategies and work plans; researching and identifying corporate and foundation funding sources, and developing grant applications and proposals. This position requires excellent written and communication skills; a strong understanding of fundraising practices and principals; high level of attention to detail combined with the ability to be flexible, take initiative, and work collaboratively. Knowledge of the Bay Area arts funding community a plus.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The role of the Associate Director of Development is to work closely with the Director of Development to support the fundraising goals of AKLINES Ballet; strategize, develop, manage and implement the institutional and corporate giving program for Alonzo King LINES Ballet; write grant applications and reports; and steward relationships.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

General

Work in collaboration with Director of Development to manage and execute fundraising strategies and work plans
Represent AKLB to donors, patrons, audiences and in the community
Maintain the Institutional Fundraising Calendar, including deadline oversight
Maintain Individual Fundraising and Communication calendar
Work closely with Marketing staff to develop printed materials related to fundraising
Contribute to maintaining processes that ensure accurate and up-to-date gift processing, gift entry, records management, and donor acknowledgements
Participate in the development, planning and execution of special events
Work closely with all members of AKLB staff and volunteers to achieve the organization’s goals

Institutional Giving

Develop grant applications and reports
Research, identify, manage corporate and institutional funding sources
Develop and compile background information on current and potential private foundations and corporate funders
Facilitate site visits for prospective funders

Corporate Sponsorship

Direct the stewardship of Corporate Sponsorships
Direct the creation of proposals for corporate foundation solicitations
Oversee the fulfillment of promised sponsorship benefits

Donors:

Assist the DoD with the following:
- Identify and research giving capacity for major donors among current as well as prospective donors
- Maintain background materials on current and potential donors
Create solicitation strategies for portfolio of donors tying donor interests to LINES Ballet’s funding priorities
- Cultivate donors and prospects through ongoing personal communication and correspondence
- Solicit major donor prospects, create proposals/presentation materials following appropriate cultivation period
- Steward major donors through recognition in printed materials, appreciation events, and other activities as appropriate
Track progress through hard files and in Salesforce database

Annual Giving

Assist the DoD with the following:
Manage all aspects of direct mail solicitations following each San Francisco Home Season (2x per year)
Conduct other project-specific mail campaigns throughout the year on behalf to the Dance Center, BFA, Trainee, and Summer programs
Oversee the timely execution of all donor acknowledgements (letters, special letters, and thank you phone calls from Board of Directors) and the fulfillment of all-levels giving benefits

Other

Attend all LINES Ballet performances
Positive, can-do attitude is a must
Aligns with LINES Ballet core ideology
Able to juggle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
Self-starter, able to be comfortable working with minimal supervision
Love of dance is a plus

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
