Compensation:
$12,000 stipend for 10 months, with potential opportunities for summer work.
Tuition Support:
Full tuition waiver for in-state and out-of-state residents ( university fees not included ).
Professional Development:
Travel assistance for conferences and additional development opportunities.
Workload:
Average of 20 hours per week.
Job Description: TheMarketing andFitnessGraduate Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the development, implementation, and management ofmarketing andfitness programmingwithin Recreation & Wellness. This position includes oversight of group exercise classes,fitnessspecial events,andRecreation and Wellness’s marketing.The Graduate Assistant willassistinsupervisingand mentoringstudent staff, engage directly with participants to foster a culture of health and wellness, and collaborate with campus partners to enhanceRecWellopportunities. This roleprovidesan opportunity to gain valuable professional experience in program management, leadership, and operations in arecreationsetting.
Key Responsibilities:
Assistin the recruitment, training, and supervision of fitness floor assistants, group exercise instructors, and marketing student employees
Collaborate on the development and delivery of fitness and wellness programs, including fitness challenges, workshops, andspecial events.
Assistin the management offitness center operations, including equipment maintenance and facility cleanliness.
Conduct fitness assessments and provide educational workshops on wellness topics.
Develop and implement strategies to increase student engagement in fitness programs
Assistwith risk management and ensure safety protocols are followed during all fitness activities
Overseeallaspects of marketing for Recreation and Wellness, includingsocial media, digital signage, physical signage, and tabling efforts
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field.
Accepted and enrolled in Indiana University Master of Science in Recreation Administration (Online) Graduate Program (starting Fall 2025)
Certification in personal training or group fitness instruction (e.g., ACSM, ACE, NASM) preferred.
Experience inmanaging fitness programs and working with diverse populations.
Experience with marketing strategies and tactics
An understanding ofvarious marketing technologies (i.e., Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Social Media Platforms, Photo Shop, etc.)
Strong communication, attention to detail,and leadership skills.
CPR/First Aid and AED certification (or willingness to obtain).
Percent Effort: Note–Depending on the time of year, and Recreation and Wellness’s needs the following ratio of effort may deviate slightly from the assigned percent of effort.
Marketing – 60%
Fitness – 40%
