Overview
We are looking for a highly skilled Technical Designer with a specialized focus on denim to drive product accuracy and consistency from initial concept through production. This role serves as the technical backbone of the denim category, ensuring that fit, construction, and wash standards are executed flawlessly across multiple programs and seasons. The ideal candidate has deep denim expertise, extensive experience partnering with overseas factories, and a strong track record supporting high-volume retail programs. You are detail-oriented, solution-driven, and comfortable balancing multiple styles, calendars, and cross-functional partners simultaneously. Responsibilities
Own the technical development of all denim styles from design handoff through production approval. Build, update, and maintain detailed Tech Packs, including measurements, construction details, and wash standards. Create accurate technical flat sketches (front, back, and detail views) with clear callouts on stitching, trims, and finishes. Develop and manage garment specs for multiple fits (e.g., skinny, straight, wide leg, bootcut, relaxed) and size ranges. Lead or support fit sessions, capture fit comments, and translate feedback into precise pattern and spec revisions. Establish and maintain denim fit blocks and standard measurement libraries for consistency across programs. Partner closely with design, production, and merchandising to align on fit intent, aesthetic direction, and margin/target costs. Communicate daily with overseas factories to clarify technical requirements, resolve construction issues, and ensure development stays on calendar. Review, measure, and comment on all proto, fit, PPS, and TOP samples; ensure alignment with Tech Packs, construction standards, and quality expectations. Build and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), including fabric, trims, labels, thread, and packaging details. Document and specify denim washes, finishes, and laundry processes in collaboration with design and wash developers. Track all sample requests and approvals, maintaining clear WIP reports to monitor status and due dates. Organize and archive samples, specs, and reference garments to support quick retrieval and style evolution. Identify and recommend construction improvements to enhance fit, durability, comfort, and cost efficiency. Support the creation of internal and external line sheets with accurate technical and measurement information. Qualifications
5+ years of technical design experience, with a strong focus on denim. Proven experience working with international vendors and factories on import product. Advanced knowledge of denim fabric behavior, pattern shapes, shrinkage, stretch/recovery, and wash impact on fit. Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator for technical flats and construction callouts. Strong skills in Excel and familiarity with PLM or similar product lifecycle systems. Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organization across large style counts. Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially in conveying clear technical comments to overseas partners. Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while managing multiple priorities. Collaborative mindset with the ability to build effective relationships across design, production, and merchandising teams. Degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, Patternmaking, or related field preferred.
