Overview
Growing company in the building products industry has an exciting opportunity available for a Distribution Sales Representative. This is a remote position and can be based anywhere in the Western United States including CA, CO, NV, OR, NM, WA, ID, WY, MT or AZ. The Distribution Sales Representative is responsible for increasing market penetration and profitable sales growth within an assigned territory. This role achieves results by effectively managing and growing the existing customer base, developing new distributor and customer relationships, supporting distributor sales teams, and identifying opportunities within new and existing construction projects. The position requires strong relationship-building skills, disciplined territory management, and the ability to represent company professionally in a competitive marketplace. Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with all current customers and distributors within the region; understand their business models, needs, and growth opportunities.
Responsibilities
Develop a comprehensive understanding of the full distribution network within the region, including key decision-makers and influencers.
Identify, develop, and onboard new distributor and customer accounts to expand market penetration and drive sales growth.
Research and become knowledgeable of new construction projects within the region utilizing the knowledge base tools provided by company as well as other construction data reports.
Execute territory and account business plans focused on retention, new account acquisition, and product line penetration.
Actively manage call schedule to adequately cover assigned territory in a time-efficient manner.
Responsible for achieving annual sales volume, revenue, and profit goals.
Develop, maintain, and actively manage a robust sales pipeline using CRM; ensure timely and accurate data entry.
Prepare accurate sales forecasts, territory plans, and activity reports for management review.
Analyze sales data, customer buying patterns, and market trends to identify opportunities and risks.
Work cross-functionally with Customer Service, Operations, Marketing, Credit, and Supply Chain to ensure accurate order fulfillment, lead times, and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
Minimum of five years of direct work experience in building products or related field.
Proven ability to convert prospects, close deals, and consistently meet or exceed sales quotas.
Professional demeanor, selling style, and appearance, with high level of integrity and work ethic.
Solid experience in opportunity qualification (often involving multiple key decision makers), pre-visit planning, call control, account development, and time and territory management.
Strong knowledge of sales principles, methods, practices, and techniques and have problem identification and objection resolution skills.
Excellent listening, verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to build lasting customer relationships.
Strong time and territory management skills; highly organized and detail-oriented.
Self-motivated, with high energy and an engaging level of enthusiasm, with the ability to work individually, and as part of a team.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and analyze sales data.
Able to manage multiple priorities, be self-motivated and highly organized, able to work independently and adaptable to a diverse and demanding environment.
Proficient in CRM systems, MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel), virtual meeting platforms, and internet-based research tools.
Valid driver’s license required; passport desirable.
Frequent travel (as much as 50% or more) is required, often up to several hours of driving per day.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Sales, Business, Construction Management, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
5 - 7 years of building material sales experience.
Experience with plastics, extrusion, PVC, vinyl siding, thermoplastics, HDPE, LLDPE, LDPE, Polyethylene, Polypropylene, or Polyolefins would be a plus.
Construction Specification experience is a plus.
