
Employee Relations Business Partner (Contract)
Location: Fully Remote (California)
Working Hours: Must work Pacific Time (8:00 AM-5:00 PM PT)

Role Overview
The Employee Relations Business Partner will provide expert employee relations guidance and governance across an assigned portfolio, ensuring employee relations policies, practices, and strategies support business objectives and comply with legal and regulatory requirements. This role focuses on managing complex and high-risk employee relations matters while partnering closely with business leaders, HR, Legal, and external vendors. The ideal candidate will be comfortable operating independently in a fast-paced, regulated environment and handling sensitive issues with sound judgment and discretion.
Key Responsibilities
Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders on employee relations matters.
Provide guidance on misconduct, corrective action, performance management, leaves of absence, accommodations, workplace conflict, harassment and discrimination, and adjudication.
Perform intake, assessment, investigation, root-cause analysis, and risk mitigation for employee relations issues.
Manage high-risk ER matters, including legal case management, human rights investigations, and workforce transformation initiatives.
Review, negotiate, and authorize separation agreements within prescribed authority limits.
Support severance activities, redeployment, reductions in force, and employment transitions.
Develop, maintain, and document ER processes, controls, reports, and dashboards.
Monitor legislative changes and ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations.
Educate and coach managers on ER practices, HR policies, and labor regulations.
Partner with internal and external stakeholders to support change initiatives and ER programs.
Ensure fair, consistent, and compliant application of employee relations policies.
Maintain audit-ready documentation and governance artifacts.
Must-Have Qualifications
5-7+ years of Employee Relations experience
Post-secondary degree in a related field or equivalent experience
HR designation preferred
Strong knowledge of employment law, ER governance, and compliance
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and influencing skills
Ability to manage complex, sensitive matters independently
Data-driven decision-making mindset
Nice-to-Have
Experience drafting policies and procedures
Bilingualism
Experience supporting large, regulated organizations

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80.00 - $90.00/hr.
