Merced College is seeking a creative and forward-thinking full-time, tenure-track Instructional Designer faculty member with teaching experience to join our Innovation Center team. This position is expected to be performed primarily onsite and reports to the Dean of Innovation and Institutional Effectiveness. We are looking for an educator who brings fresh curriculum ideas, a strong grounding in research-based design principles, accessibility, and learning science, and a genuine passion for supporting faculty and students. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching in online, hybrid, or in-person environments and will be excited to contribute to emerging efforts in AI-enhanced instruction, Immersive Learning, Competency-Based Education (CBE), and assessment development for Credit for Prior Learning (CPL). Innovation Center As part of the Innovation Center team, this faculty leader will champion equitable, accessible, and high-impact teaching practices. Responsibilities include consultation and training on the delivery of innovative instruction, maintaining Regular Substantive Interaction (RSI), leveraging the Canvas Learning Management System for course delivery and evaluation, and supporting curriculum development across the College. This role also contributes to instructional design projects, learning outcomes assessment, and campuswide initiatives that elevate student success. Responsibilities
Develop and implement effective online education courses Collaborate with faculty and staff in designing and developing course content, including the integration of media technologies Assist in the development of course templates for all departments Develop and deliver online education training programs on course development and concepts of online course delivery Create and publish user documentation and web resources for supported technology tools and software Assist with the implementation of college, district, and statewide initiatives Assist faculty with accessibility requirements for online and face-to-face courses and related digital learning content Maintain, train, and update best practices in instructional design Participate in evaluation, selection, testing, and implementation of hardware, software, tools, and services Provide online education support by troubleshooting and resolving technology and system access issues Support Educational Technology Training Center services to faculty, students, and leadership Prepare status reports for ongoing projects Engage in data inquiry and self-assessment to improve student success, persistence, and equity Provide instruction aligned to established course outlines and expectations Participate in curriculum development and review Contribute to teaching–learning methods and materials Participate in college committees and professional activities Contribute to the learning outcomes assessment program at course, program, and institutional levels
Qualifications
Master's degree in Instructional Design/Technology or Educational Technology Alternatively, equivalent combinations: Master’s degree in any discipline with demonstrated experience in instructional design, educational technology, and/or online learning development; current knowledge of instructional design and Learning Management Systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas); demonstrated online instruction experience or online instruction certification; current technology skills and willingness to pursue new technologies; commitment to DEIA and anti-racist principles in the workplace
OR Master's degree in any discipline AND experience in instructional design, educational technology, and/or online learning development AND current knowledge of LMS tools Promote and incorporate culturally affirming DEIA and anti-racist principles to nurture a respectful, inclusive, and equitable learning and work environment.
Preferred
At least one year of experience developing online courses with administrators, faculty, and staff Experience with innovative teaching methods and higher education curriculum development Experience collaborating with instructors to produce instructional materials and leverage technology to support teaching and learning
