The Residence Hall Director holds a live-in, full-time (exempt status) professional appointment in the Office of Residence Life and the Division of Belonging and Student Affairs. The RHD has responsibilities in student development, staff development, and hall administration for one residence hall or 2–3 university-owned apartment buildings. This position supervises undergraduate student staff and is expected to participate in the programs and activities of the Office of Residence Life and the Division of Belonging and Student Affairs. The position reports to either a Complex Director or Assistant Director within the department.

Responsibilities
Develop a residential community, including any living-learning community, through the residential curriculum focused on academic, personal, and interpersonal growth for individuals and the community. Provide leadership to hall governments and serve as an advisor to campus-wide events as needed.
Anticipate and respond to crisis management needs of the residence hall and university apartment system, including serving in duty night and weekend rotation. Enforce University and department policies and procedures, serving as a University conduct administrator for the Division of Belonging and Student Affairs.
Maintain an active relationship with the campus minister(s) and the counseling center staff member who liaison with the building’s RHD.
Participate in recruitment and selection of professional staff and student staff for the residence life system.
Plan and implement residence hall–specific training programs and workshops; assist other professional staff in campus-wide training activities for student staff and participate in professional staff development and in-service training sessions. This includes holding regularly scheduled supervisory meetings with direct reports.
Manage ongoing and long-term administrative tasks related to the operations of the residence hall (e.g., weekly reports, key cards, personal data profiles, residential curriculum management, student conduct records).
Oversee occupancy issues for the residence hall including room changes and building move-out periods. Monitor budgets for the operation of the residence hall/apartment programs, operations, and student staff.
Maintain active liaison relationships with custodial and facilities planning & management staff. Maintain active relationships with campus food service operation providers and monitor service, cleanliness, and quality of food in the dining halls.
Serve on department- and division-wide committees, task forces, and special projects.
Encourage participation in professional development opportunities within the department, the division, the University, and through state, regional, or national professional organizations. This may include collateral assignments outside of the department with supervisor approval.
Other Experience and Qualifications Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree.
Build and maintain collaborative relationships to work effectively with others through empathy and respect; seek and appreciate viewpoints from diverse cultures, races, ages, genders, religions, and orientations.
Exercise sound reasoning to analyze issues, synthesize information, make decisions and solve problems; ability to think critically and strategically to develop solutions.

Ability to work with a very high degree of confidentiality.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Master’s degree and residence hall or student affairs experience within a graduate program.
