The Residence Hall Director (RHD) holds a live-in, full-time (exempt status) professional appointment in the Office of Residence Life and the Division of Belonging and Student Affairs. The RHD has responsibilities in the areas of student development, staff development and hall administration for one residence hall or 2-3 university owned apartment buildings. This position supervises undergraduate student staff. Additionally, they are expected to fully participate in the programs and activities of the Office of Residence Life and Division of Belonging and Student Affairs. The position reports to either a Complex Director or Assistant Director within the department. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Develop a residential community, including any living learning community housed in the building, through use of the residential curriculum that focuses on academic, personal, and interpersonal growth for individuals and the community. In addition, the RHD will provide leadership to the hall governments and serve as an advisor to campus wide events as needed. 2. Anticipate and respond to the crisis management needs of the residence hall and university apartment system, including serving in duty night and weekend rotation. Enforce University and department policies and procedures, serving as a University conduct administrator for the Division of Belonging and Student Affairs. 3. Maintain an active relationship with the campus minister(s) who reside in the building and the counseling center staff member who liaisons with the RHD of the building. 4. Participate in the recruitment and selection of the professional staff and student staff members for the residence life system. 5. Assume responsibility for planning and implementing residence hall specific training programs, and workshops; assist other professional staff in campus-wide training activities for student staff members and participate in professional staff development and in-service training sessions. This includes holding regularly scheduled supervisory meetings with direct reports. 6. Manage the on-going (day to day) and long-term administrative tasks related to the operations of the residence hall (i.e., weekly reports, key cards, personal data profiles, residential curriculum management, student conduct records, etc.). 7. Oversee occupancy issues for the residence hall including room changes, and building move out periods. Monitor budgets necessary for the operation of the residence hall/apartment’s programs, operations, and student staff. 8. Maintain active liaison relationships with the custodial and facilities, planning & management staff. Maintain active relationship with campus food service operation providers and monitor service, cleanliness, and quality of food in the dining halls. 9. Each RHD will serve on department and division wide committees, task forces, and special projects. 10. Each RHD is encouraged to participate in professional development opportunities within the department, the division, the University and through state, regional or national professional organizations. This includes potential opportunities to participate in a collateral assignment outside of the department with supervisor approval. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Bachelor’s degree Build and maintain collaborative relationships to work effectively with others through empathy and respect; seek and appreciate the viewpoints of those from diverse cultures, races, ages, genders, religions and orientations. Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Master’s degree and residence hall or student affairs experience within a graduate program.
