Job Description WMAQ‑TV, NBC Chicago is looking for a multiplatform content producer to work with an exceptional journalism team to create compelling story‑centric content for broadcast and digital platforms.
Responsibilities
Work closely with platform managers, daypart managers, assignment editors, reporters and anchors to produce high‑quality news stories with integrity and accuracy.
Produce, write, edit and publish news stories for all WMAQ news platforms, including broadcast, website, streaming channels and OTT apps.
Use strong organizational skills to meet fast‑paced deadlines.
Participate in editorial planning sessions and provide original story ideas.
Add content to digital and social platforms in collaboration with the dedicated digital content team.
Fill in as broadcast line producer when needed on WMAQ newscasts and special programs.
Field‑produce special segments, programs and/or newscasts.
Take ownership of assigned stories by gathering information, making calls and booking guests as needed.
Qualifications
Strong sense of story and compelling visual style.
Superb written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Desire to play an active role in the editorial process.
Strategic thinking, research and organizational skills.
Excellent time management skills to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines.
Minimum 2 years’ experience with news writing, producing and desktop editing across multiple platforms and social media.
Proven experience in video editing for news or broadcast environments.
Strong skills in graphics creation.
Ability to work overnight shift, weekends, longer hours and varying shifts as assigned to meet production and broadcast deadlines.
Must be willing to work in severe weather emergencies and/or extended news coverage.
Research, write and produce strong editorial copy with speed and accuracy in a fast‑paced environment.
Must have the ability to organize and manage priorities under tight deadlines and high‑pressure situations; must be able to multi‑task and adapt quickly to change.
Deep knowledge of current events and top news stories.
Characteristics
Fluency in English and Spanish, both written and verbal.
Knowledge and understanding of various media platforms.
Pioneering spirit with a desire to learn emerging technologies and invent the future.
Ability to solve problems, prioritize decisions under deadline.
Experience working or living in the Chicago area market.
Able to cultivate new information from outside sources to generate creative story ideas and gather reliable information for news content.
Knowledgeable in navigating the internet to find stories and information.
Able to excel and be productive within a fast‑paced and multi‑cultural news team environment.
