Graduate Assistant for Athletic Marketing and Revenue Generation
The University of South Carolina Upstate is seeking applicants for a graduate assistant for marketing, fan engagement and revenue generation.
Under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Revenue Generation, this position will support and implement strategies toward maximizing fan attendance, ticketing and sponsorship revenue for USC Upstate athletics and its 13 sport programs.
At USC Upstate, we strive to provide an individualized and broad graduate assistantship experience. The overall goal of the graduate assistantship program is to gain knowledge and experience through opportunities so that upon graduation, an individual is ready to move into a full‑time position within the field of collegiate athletics administration.
Essential Job Functions
Lead marketing, promotional and game presentation effort for assigned sports
Serve as secondary marketing and group ticket contact for men’s basketball and women’s basketball
Assist with corporate partnership prospecting, proposals and stewardship under the direction of the Sr. Assoc. AD for External Operations
Identify and implement grassroots marketing activities on‑campus and around the Spartanburg community
Research and identify innovative concepts to help with fan engagement and revenue generation concepts
Assist with planning and executing of non‑gameday events (Morgan Square Madness, Sparty Awards, Sparty’s Ball, Fox Sports 98.3 FM Upstate Takeover Day, Hall of Fame Induction)
Assist in training, scheduling and supervision of undergraduate student workers for assigned sports
Assist in management of USC Upstate’s presence at community events, including mascot appearances and Sparty’s Kids Club
Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Fan Experience or Sr. Associate Athletic Director for External Operations
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Acceptance into the Master of Science in Sport and Entertainment Management (MSEM) program at the University of South Carolina, Columbia or the Business Analytics Master’s program at USC Upstate
Must be accepted as a graduate student to accept the graduate assistant position
Ability to interact effectively with student‑athletes, colleagues, coaches and supporters
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Attention to detail
Successful background check
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in related field (marketing, communications, sports management)
Previous experience in intercollegiate athletics or professional sports franchises
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Prompt and regular attendance
Availability for night and weekend hours
Must adhere to all USC Upstate, Big South Conference and NCAA rules and regulations
Comfort juggling multiple tasks
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Compensation
Stipend of $1,000 per month for a 10‑month academic year, with possibility of a summer appointment
Out-of‑state tuition waiver, if applicable (valued at approximately $12,000 to $16,000 per year depending on hours)
Candidate responsible for in‑state tuition and related fees (approximately $10,300 to $14,000 per year depending on hours)
Schedule and Contact Work schedule will vary depending on athletic contests and department needs, but candidates must be available to work nights and weekends.
