Overview
Assistant Director for Financial Aid & Scholarships University of South Carolina Upstate STA00029PO26 Spartanburg, SC Under the general supervision of the Director of Financial Aid, the Assistant Director for Financial Aid & Scholarships is responsible for the administration of the USC Upstate Scholars Foundation, the state programs – Hope, LIFE and Palmetto Fellows, outside scholarship awards and the administration of the USC Upstate Undergraduate Admissions institutional scholarship awards. This person is responsible for assisting Director in the day-to-day administration of the Financial Aid Office. Serves as the liaison with the community by conducting Financial Aid workshops for local high schools. Represents USC Upstate at University events. Serves as Financial Aid Counselor for students, parents, visitors, faculty and staff. Leads and trains staff members to provide financial aid services and support.
Responsibilities
Assists the Director in day-to-day administration of the Financial Aid Office by managing processes of the office; representing the Director as necessary in advising students, parents, faculty, alumni, staff and the general public regarding FA matters and supervising the FA staff in the Director.
Serves as Financial Aid Counselor to parents, students and guests of USC Upstate. Represents USC Upstate for on-campus events as well as area high school workshops.
Responsible for processing Foundation and outside scholarships received, assuring donor criteria met, accuracy of fund codes/AR receivable codes, assisting scholarship selection committees, adding awards to student accounts, and coordinating awards with existing federal, state, and institutional guidelines.
Responsible for the administration of all USC Upstate scholarship programs to include USC Upstate scholars. This includes fiscal integrity, coordinating awards with federal, state, and institutional aid within appropriate regulations and policies.
Responsible for awarding and oversight of the SC Hope, LIFE and Palmetto Fellows Scholarship programs in accordance with regulations as prescribed by CHE. This includes fiscal integrity, regulatory compliance and reporting.
Responsible for assigning and monitoring work for two staff members. Tasks will include scholarship training, work/study awards and aid verification.
Supervises and hires the student workers and front desk receptionist for the FAO to provide student service.
Assist with awarding and managing student aid for athletes to meet NCAA requirements.
Reviews student financial data to verify eligibility for federal grants – Pell, SEOG, SNBG, TEACH, OSPG and VIG. Responsible for oversight and administration of federal work study programs.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Education and Experience Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job-related field and 2 or more years of job-related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job-related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and 2 years financial aid or related experience. Master’s degree with accounting and or higher education knowledge is preferred. Public speaking experience. Experience with data systems, mainframe processing systems and a variety of personal computer software.
Salary $49,396 – $61,533; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
