General Summary Under supervision of the Senior Manager of Media Relations, develops and distributes news releases, acts as agency spokesperson, creates and executes media relations activities, 24/7 availability to respond to accidents and critical incidents, writes and prepares executive speeches and presentations, writes articles for external agency publications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develops and maintains relationships with regional, national and international news and trade media organizations.
Researches, writes, and coordinates timely dissemination of news releases, features, and opinion editorials.
Acts as media contact, fulfilling media requests for information, coordinating interviews, and acting as agency spokesperson in broadcast, print and online media.
Responds to accidents and critical incidents involving DART services on a 24/7 basis coordinating media relations support on scene.
Coordinate, review, and manage requests for material distribution and commercial filming on DART platforms, stations, and vehicles, ensuring compliance with agency guidelines, safety standards, and operational requirements.
Proofread and edit agency communications to ensure accuracy, clarity, and compliance with style and brand standards.
Creates, coordinates high-profile media events, tours, and briefings.
Researches, writes, creates executive speeches and presentations supporting media relations initiatives.
Works with Internet Web Designer to maintain content on DART websites.
Prepares a variety of reports for and correspondence for management review.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.
Bachelors Degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Public Relations or related field.
Two (2) years progressively responsible media/publications experience in corporate communications, news reporting, or related environment. Fluency in written and verbal Spanish preferred.
Demonstrated mastery of written and verbal English language skills (preferred) in a journalism/corporate communications setting with the ability to prepare and execute concise and professional written/oral communications inside and outside of DART.
Analytical and creative skills to find solutions to problems of limited complexity.
Proficiency with personal computer (PC) and software applications to include spreadsheet, word processing, and database.
WORKING CONDITIONS Works in an environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting DART's operating facilities, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
