We are currently seeking a self-motivated individual to join our team as an E&S Underwriter Trainee. In this role, you will train to underwrite risk that determines the selection/rejection of new and renewal commercial business. The trainee will gain an understanding of the underwriting thought process and learn to utilize underwriting guidelines, procedures, rating manual rules and insurance laws/regulations. Additionally, the Trainee will learn the skills required to develop and maintain strong relationships with agents and insureds within assigned territory. The trainee will participate in an extensive training program involving instruction and self-study combined with on-the-job shadowing that will provide the opportunity to learn the business. Upon successful mastery, the underwriter trainee will evaluate existing and new accounts and make underwriting recommendations within limited authority on assignments of moderate technical complexity. This position will be based in our Mid-Atlantic Regional office in Glen Allen, VA. Our Trainee program starts in June 2026. Bachelor\'s Degree (NOTE: relevant, progressively responsible work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education). Emphasis in Risk Management & Insurance preferred. Excellent communication, negotiation, relationship building, interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to analyze, define and solve problems; the use of good judgment and decision-making. Ability to determine customer needs, provide solutions and price business appropriately. Basic knowledge of underwriting processes, coverages, tools and company products and services. Licenses & Certifications
