Social Media Manager

on a freelance contract basis to amplify the voices, stories, and everyday magic across our school communities. You will help capture authentic moments, craft visuals, and shape narratives that inspire families and followers across multiple platforms. You will play a key role in bringing our mission to life online, celebrating student success, and highlighting the impact of our educators and programs. This role requires availability for monthly onsite visits in New York City.

Responsibilities

Capture original content reflecting the energy and diversity of our schools Edit photos and simple reels, draft engaging captions, and manage monthly content calendars via Instagram and Facebook (Meta Business Suite) Create on-brand social media assets including graphics, short-form videos, stories, and more Support content planning and execution across Instagram, Facebook, the website, and LinkedIn Document school events, classroom moments, and community activities as needed Collaborate with internal teams to align content with campaigns, initiatives, and milestones Edit and optimize content for platform best practices Maintain a consistent tone, voice, and visual identity across all channels Track basic performance metrics and adjust content based on engagement trends

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

1 year of related experience High School Diploma or GED Proven experience creating social media content for brands, organizations, or schools Strong visual storytelling and copywriting skills Proficiency with design/editing tools such as Canva, Photoshop, Adobe Suite, CapCut, etc. Solid understanding of social media trends and platform best practices Ability to manage deadlines independently and respond to feedback Willingness to attend occasional evening events Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Successful completion of NYS fingerprinting Must be legally authorized to work in the United States Performs additional duties as assigned

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

Experience in education or mission-driven organizations Fluency in Spanish (speaking, reading, and writing) Familiarity with multicultural communities Experience with basic analytics tools Comfort capturing content in fast-paced environments Ability to independently manage your own schedule with a predictable monthly creative workflow Maintain a professional appearance at Amber Charter Schools properties and events Ability to generate content that communicates Amber’s culture and values (Achievement, Community, Responsibility, Honesty, Respect)

Laptop, camera, and any other necessary equipment

Work Schedule

Onsite, hands-on work across all campuses Approximately 20 hours per month Role runs through June 2026 with potential extension

Work Environment/Physical Effort

Regularly required to sit, stand for long periods, walk, climb stairs, speak clearly, observe, hear, operate a computer, and use classroom and office equipment Reach with hands and arms, bend, and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds Traditionally in a multi-floor school environment with limited elevator access

Compensation

The hourly rate for this role is $45-$60 per hour, depending on experience. This is a temporary, contract position. Amber Charter Schools follows a salary schedule to support pay equity.
