Job Summary The Senior Instructional Designer for RailPros Training & Media Service group leads the design and development of innovative, effective training programs for our clients. This role collaborates with subject matter experts (SMEs), safety officers, and operations leaders to create learning solutions that support regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and workforce development. This position requires both independent initiative and team leadership, providing guidance to other instructional designers and content developers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Apply adult learning principles and instructional design best practices to develop engaging, multimedia-rich course content

Lead the end-to-end design and development of learning content, including modes of assessment to measure the effectiveness and application of training

Lead a cross-functional development team throughout the project life cycle

Design inclusive learning experiences that reflect diverse learning styles

Collaborate with SMEs to identify training needs and close knowledge gaps

Recommend curriculum strategies based on needs analysis

Define instructional goals and align content accordingly

Contribute to project proposals, including scope, design plans, timelines, and budgets

Develop training deliverables such as ILT guides, eLearning modules, exams, and surveys

Support media production (audio, video, animations, simulations, games)

Create interactive exercises and activities to reinforce learning

Establish performance criteria and develop assessment tools

Maintain project documentation and course assets

Conduct post-training evaluations and recommend improvements

Other duties as assigned or required to meet the business needs

Qualifications Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Advanced knowledge and understanding of adult learning theory and instructional design methodologies for classroom-based, self-guided, and virtual training

Extensive experience working with eLearning development tools (Articulate, Captivate, etc.)

High proficiency in developing instructor-led training materials, including Instructor Guides, Participant Manuals, and presentation materials

High proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint

Partnering effectively with others to achieve results

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Superior ability to proofread work of self and others to improve quality, consistency, and readability

Superior ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts

Highly proficient in time management, organization, planning and prioritization

High proficiency with electronic communications including email and text as well as standard office applications (Microsoft Office Suite)

Required Education And Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Communications, Education or relevant field

5+ years of experience designing and implementing employee development programs (or similar)

Excellent client interface and management experience for training development projects

Preferred Education And Experience

Master’s degree in Communications, Instructional Design, or relevant field preferred

Fluent in Spanish, both written and verbal

HTML5 competency

Experience in railroad or similar industry

Experience with media production

Experience working within a Learning Management System (LMS)

Additional Preferred Qualifications, Certifications, Etc.

Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) credential preferred

SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential preferred
