Position Summary Scope

The Athletic Trainer/Assistant Athletic Director provides comprehensive athletic training services, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, emergency care, and medical coordination for all student-athletes while ensuring accurate documentation and confidentiality. This role also supports the Athletic Director with administrative duties, including academic monitoring, event management, and student-athlete records. The position serves as a key liaison among coaches, physicians, administrators, and families to promote student-athlete health, safety, and success, while assisting in the overall management and operations of the athletic department. Authority The Athletic Trainer/Assistant Athletic Director is directly responsible to the Athletic Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Major Responsibilities Athletic Training Duties: Provides preventative care, treatment, and rehabilitation for athletic-related injuries. Evaluates injuries through range of motion testing, manual muscle testing, special tests, and other assessments as needed. Documents all injuries and treatments and communicates student athlete status updates to the coaching staff. Schedules physician appointments and transports student athletes to medical visits using state vehicles. Coordinates follow-up care, consultations, diagnostic tests, and medical referrals for student athletes. Provides athletic training coverage for games and practices, including setup, pre-treatment, taping, stretching, and therapeutic interventions as appropriate. Implements and manages emergency action plans; inspects AED units and ensures emergency supplies are maintained. Serves as a liaison among physicians, administrators, coaches, parents, and student-athletes regarding injury prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Assist the Athletic Director with processing injury-related claim submissions. Collaborates with coaching staff to design and implement conditioning, strength training, and nutrition programs. Maintains a clean, organized, and fully equipped athletic training facility, ensuring sanitation and readiness of medical equipment. Orders, tracks, and inventories medical and athletic supplies for treatment and emergencies. Coordinates rehabilitation plans and athletic trainer coverage for all home games while modeling professional conduct for student athletes. Submits injury and incident reports in compliance with College policies to the Athletic Director, Dean of Students, and Campus Services. Builds and maintains positive working relationships with coaches, medical personnel, student-athletes, parents, officials, and community partners. Protects the confidentiality of all student-athlete medical information and treatment records. Refers student-athletes to medical professionals and support resources as needed. Assists with annual athletic orientation and education sessions each fall. Assists the Athletic Director with coordinating athletic drug testing and substance abuse education programs. Engages in professional development activities to maintain knowledge and credentials in athletic training and higher education best practices. Performs other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director, Executive Director of Workforce Development, or President. Assistant Athletic Director Duties:

Assist the Athletic Director in ensuring student-athlete academic success through proactive monitoring and timely communication of academic performance. Assist the Athletic Director with organizing, reviewing, and maintaining student athlete files, in compliance with audit and regulatory requirements. Assist the Athletic Director with preparing and processing NJCAA letters of intent and athlete releases as assigned. Assist the Athletic Director with gathering and organizing all pertinent information and data regarding NJCAA and ACCC compliance and reporting. Assist the Athletic Director with coordinating and executing athletic event management activities. Assist the Athletic Director with managing media relations and promotional communications for athletic programs. Assist the Athletic Director and coaching staff to compile and submit game results in accordance with NJCAA and ACCC reporting guidelines. Performs other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director, Executive Director of Workforce Development, or President.

Qualifications

Qualifications 1. A Master's degree from a regionally accredited college in Athletic Training is required.

2. National Certification as an athletic trainer is required.

3. Prior experience in athletic administration preferred.

4. Must possess a valid Driver's License.

5. Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.

6. Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

7. Must be able to take initiative and work independently, meet regular deadlines, and maintain the confidentiality of student information.

Retirement The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Tuition Assistance This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy.
