Job Description :
The New York Post provides readers with the best in news, sports, pop culture and entertainment - with signature wit, irreverence and authority drawing an average of 90 million unique viewers a month. Over the past 224 years, The Post has evolved into a multiplatform media company spanning print, digital, video, audio, app, television and commerce.
The New York Post is looking for a fast, pop culture-savvy
copy editor
with experience in print production to join our Page Six/Lifestyle/Entertainment/Wellness Copy Desk. This full-time role touches everything from celebrity gossip and movie reviews to health trends, fashion and those unmistakable New York Post headlines - yes, you'll be writing some. You'll be tasked with assisting in the layout of Page Six, Page Six Hollywood and other print pages as needed: creating a dynamic layout, writing display and making copy clean and punchy on deadline.
We're looking for someone with a great editorial eye, strong production skills and an appreciation for The Post's unique voice. If you thrive in a fast-paced newsroom, love a tight deadline and can rewrite a headline in a New York minute, we want to hear from you.
Responsibilities:
• Write headlines, captions and display type for print pages • Copy edit stories across Page Six, Lifestyle, Entertainment and Arts & Culture - both short and feature-length • Take charge of visually dynamic print layouts for the newspaper • Fact check and proofread stories with speed and accuracy • Ensure consistency with AP and house styles • Collaborate with reporters, editors and digital producers to maintain Post standards • Jump into breaking news and high-volume moments with flexibility and calm
Requirements:
• 2-5 years of experience in copy editing, proofreading and fact checking on tight deadlines • Strong command of grammar, spelling, punctuation and style (AP knowledge a must) • 2-5 years of experience creating pages for print publication • Comfort with layout tools and editorial formatting for print • Comfort taking charge of a page's design and content • Skilled at writing headlines, decks, captions, etc. • A sense of humor and of what makes a great story and headline • Experience in digital editing (WordPress/CMS) or a willingness to learn • Familiarity with pop culture, celebrities and NYC's cultural scene • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a deadline-driven environment
Note: The schedule for this role requires evenings. While shift times are generally 12:30 PM to 8:30 PM Monday through Friday, you will be required to fill in on later shifts and Sunday shifts. This role will be on-site five days per week in our Midtown Manhattan newsroom.
At The New York Post we recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. As a result, our ranges reflect our good faith estimate to pay fairly as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
In addition to compensation, the company provides eligible employees a comprehensive and highly competitive benefits package, with a variety of physical health, retirement and savings, caregiving, emotional wellbeing, transportation, and other benefits, including "elective" benefits employees may select to best fit the needs and personal situations of our diverse workforce.
As an equal opportunity employer, the New York Post does not discriminate in hiring or the terms and conditions of employment because of an individual's race, color, religion, national origin, age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, citizenship or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local law. The New York Post will consider the provision of reasonable accommodations to known physical or mental disabilities of otherwise qualified applicants to enable them to participate in our application process and to effectively perform the essential functions of the job, unless doing so would impose an undue financial or operational hardship.
Pay Range: $65,000 - $75,000
