About the Role:

As a Communications Specialist on our Marketing and Communications team, you'll help tell the airport's story to travelers, the media, business partners, employees and the public. You'll highlight our people, projects and priorities, making sure everyone knows what makes RDU special.

You'll create and manage content across multiple platforms using a broad set of writing, editing, social media, website management and multimedia storytelling skills. Collaboration is key. You'll work closely with your teammates and across departments to bring communications campaigns to life. Because airports are a 24/7 operation, you should be prepared to be available after-hours during emergencies.

Compensation:

Maximum - Based on experience

Minimum - $68,878.36

What You'll Do:

Writing and Editing • Researches, writes, edits and proofreads a wide range of communications, such as newsletters, announcements, presentation slides, website content, press materials, blog posts, talking points and digital content. • Ensures all copy aligns with brand voice, messaging standards and AP Style.

Media Relations Support • Assists in preparing press releases, media advisories, fact sheets and background materials for members of the media. • Conducts research to support media inquiries, compiles news clips and earned media metrics, maintains distribution lists and supports media events.

Digital Media Support • Provides backup support for scheduling social media posts, monitoring social media channels and updating website content. • Develops social media and website content, including shooting and editing videos and photos.

Project and Campaign Support • Supports directors and senior staff on communication campaigns, community engagement efforts and department initiatives, assists in planning and executing public events. • Helps coordinate timelines, deliverables, content needs and approvals for communications-related projects.

Crisis Communications • Maintains strong working knowledge of the Authority's Crisis Communications Plan and attends regularly scheduled crisis communications training exercises. • Member of the Authority's Crisis Communications Management Team, which is activated during a crisis or emergency event and may require night/weekend/holiday shifts.

Other Duties as Assigned • Works some nights and weekends to attend events or support crisis response. • Performs additional work as required or assigned.

What You Need:

Education Required: • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, media studies, English, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience

Experience Required: • 2 or more years of similar experience in supporting a communications or marketing division

Licenses or Certifications Required: • Valid NC Driver's License
