
Overview
Houston, TX 77002 • Hybrid Corporate Tax Manager to join its Corporate Tax practice. In this role, you will lead corporate income tax compliance, tax planning, and ASC 740 income tax provision engagements for large, complex, multi-state and global clients. You will manage multiple client engagements end-to-end, supervise and mentor staff, and serve as a primary client contact, while collaborating closely with specialists across the tax practice, including the Washington National Tax Office (WNTO). This role offers strong visibility, leadership responsibility, and long-term growth opportunities within a collaborative, high-performance environment.
Responsibilities
Manage client engagements from planning through execution and completion, ensuring delivery within budget and timeline
Supervise, train, and mentor senior associates, associates, and interns; perform in-charge responsibilities as needed
Review corporate income tax returns prepared by staff and provide guidance on accuracy and tax savings opportunities
Conduct primary reviews of ASC 740 income tax provision engagements, including provision preparation or audit support
Identify and support opportunities to expand services with existing and prospective clients
Research and consult on complex federal, state, and international tax matters
Utilize tax-related software to prepare, review, and process tax returns and provisions
Respond to IRS, state, and other tax authority inquiries
Build and maintain strong client relationships; work effectively with client management and cross-functional teams
Gain deep understanding of client operations, processes, and business objectives to enhance engagement delivery
Participate in professional development and training programs
Maintain strict adherence to professional standards and client confidentiality
Perform other duties as assigned
Must-Have Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting
CPA (Active or Reciprocity) or JD with active law license
Currently operating at Manager level
4-7 years of progressive tax compliance and/or tax consulting experience
Recent (within last 1-3 years) corporate tax and ASC 740 tax provision experience
Public accounting experience with Top 15 accounting firms
Experience supporting large, multi-state, national, or global corporate clients
Willingness to work onsite 3 days per week (Hybrid)
Required Skills
Strong expertise in ASC 740 - Accounting for Income Taxes
Corporate income tax compliance and consulting experience
Excellent analytical, technical, and tax accounting/technology skills
Proficiency in US GAAP and corporate income tax laws and regulations
Strong client service, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
Experience in public accounting (strongly preferred)
Experience with OneSource Tax Provision
Knowledge of:
State and local income taxes (SALT)
Taxation of international activity
Transfer pricing
Industry Experience Public accounting experience preferred, with a focus on corporate income tax and ASC 740 income tax accounting
