
Job Summary
The Senior EHS Specialist provides EHS technical support to the Plant through coordination of EHS activities and programs. The role supports implementation, execution, and maintenance of environmental, health, and safety systems. The Specialist collaborates with Corporate EHS team, Plant Management, Production, Maintenance, and Engineering teams focusing on projects and initiatives. The position reports directly to the Director of EHS.
Essential Duties
Guide Environmental, Health, and Safety activities at one or more locations.
Practice safe working techniques and reinforce safety policies, guidelines, and procedures.
Monitor site‑specific EHS leading and lagging indicators.
Assist the Director of EHS with creation and execution of strategic initiatives.
Lead incident investigations, develop corrective actions, and communicate lessons learned.
Review accidents and incidents, conduct audits and reporting, oversee EHS corrective actions.
Ensure plant compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Lead environmental compliance efforts and monitor permit requirements.
Identify training programs, track progress, and onboard plant employees with environmental responsibilities.
Act as EHS Subject Matter Expert, responding to questions from plants and stakeholders.
Coordinate with Plant Manager, Production, Maintenance, and Engineering on facility deficiencies through audits and inspections.
Conduct audits to monitor personnel and workspace improvements.
Drive on‑site EHS support, execute EHS policies, and ensure compliance.
Ensure Corporate EHS Applications embedded in operation.
Identify site‑specific circumstances requiring changes to the EHS management system.
Utilize the EHS Enterprise System (Gensuite – EHS) to record and analyze accident and incident records, recommend corrective actions.
Partner with plant leadership and operators to eliminate environmental, health, and safety risks.
Assist with new employee orientation and ensure completion of EHS training.
Communicate findings of accident investigations, safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to leadership.
Mentor other EHS Specialists within the network.
Lead indirectly through ownership of a process or project.
Conduct hazard and operability studies on existing and new processes.
Perform other duties assigned.
Qualifications Required
High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum 4 years of experience in workplace environmental, health, and safety program management.
Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, policies, programs, PPE, environmental policies (EPA), safety engineering, accident/injury investigation procedures and operating rules.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and computer skills (Google Suite).
Excellent organization and time management skills, flexibility, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
Flexible hours and business travel when needed.
Qualifications Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical or Environmental Engineering or related field.
Experience with Process Safety Management concepts like Management of Change.
Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
Associate Safety Professional (ASP).
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
Certified Environmental Professional (CEP).
