Position Summary
Lorenzo ISD is seeking a
Director of Safety and Security
to lead the district’s comprehensive safety, security, and emergency management program. This position is responsible for strategic planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of district safety initiatives, including emergency preparedness, response, and recovery efforts. The Director will serve as the district’s
primary sworn law enforcement authority
for on-campus law enforcement operations and emergency response, pending approval by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) to establish the Lorenzo ISD Police Department.
Key Responsibilities
Lead district-wide safety and security planning and program development
Collaborate with the Superintendent to complete the TCOLE approval process to establish the Lorenzo ISD Police Department
Serve as Incident Commander during initial emergency response until relieved by external law enforcement
Provide leadership and training for emergency management, NIMS, and IC for staff and stakeholders
Develop, coordinate, and evaluate emergency procedures and drills across all campuses and facilities
Support threat assessment processes and campus/district safety committees
Serve as liaison with law enforcement, emergency management, and community partners
Maintain compliance with federal/state law, Texas Education Code, TCOLE requirements, and district policy
Oversee equipment accountability, reporting, documentation, and required audits
Support safety and security needs during extracurricular events and district activities as assigned
Required Qualifications TCOLE Peace Officer Requirements:
Must be a
currently licensed Texas peace officer in good standing
with TCOLE
Must maintain TCOLE licensure and required continuing education
Must meet statutory requirements for commissioned school-based law enforcement
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree
or equivalent experience
in criminal justice, emergency management, or related field
Valid Texas driver’s license
Experience:
Minimum
five (5) years
as a commissioned police officer
Demonstrated experience in emergency management, risk management, and school/organizational safety and security
Preferred Knowledge & Skills:
Emergency operations planning
NIMS / IC systems
FEMA procedures
School safety programs and applicable laws
Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work within the county emergency operations center as needed
Work Schedule / Additional Information
Primary on-campus assignment during instructional hours
Regular duty hours on instructional days: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (unless otherwise directed)
May be assigned duties outside instructional hours (events/activities) with compensation per district guidelines
Supervisory Responsibilities May supervise full-time, part-time, and substitute police/security officers as assigned.
