Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Marine Electrician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems aboard vessels and marine facilities. The ideal candidate will have prior shipyard or maritime experience and be knowledgeable in shipboard electrical systems, safety requirements, and applicable marine standards. This position supports repair, maintenance, and new construction projects for commercial and government vessels.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain shipboard electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, motors, generators, and control systems
Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals
Perform cable pulling, termination, testing, and labeling in accordance with marine standards
Troubleshoot AC and DC electrical systems using appropriate test equipment
Install and maintain navigation, communication, and auxiliary electrical equipment as required
Conduct inspections and testing to ensure compliance with shipyard, customer, and regulatory requirements
Identify and correct electrical deficiencies and unsafe conditions
Coordinate work with supervisors, engineers, and other trades to meet project schedules
Maintain accurate documentation of work performed
Comply with all safety policies, including lockout/tagout and PPE requirements
Maintain clean and organized work areas
Required Qualifications
3+ years’ previous experience as a Marine Electrician or Shipyard Electrician
Strong knowledge of marine electrical systems and shipboard installations
Ability to read and understand electrical drawings and schematics
Familiarity with AC/DC systems, motors, generators, and control circuits
Proficient in the use of electrical testing equipment
Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and shipyard work practices
Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working on U.S. Navy, government, or commercial vessels
Knowledge of NAVSEA, ABS, and USCG requirements
Experience with fiber optics, PLCs, or integrated control systems
Prior shipyard or waterfront facility experience
Active or prior security clearance (preferred but not required)
Pre‑Employment & Compliance Requirements
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and pre‑employment drug screening
Candidate may be required to complete a fit‑for‑duty assessment and respirator fit testing, depending on job requirements
Must be eligible to obtain access to U.S. military bases
Must have OSHA 10 Maritime or be able to obtain it if required
Physical & Work Environment
Work performed aboard vessels, in shipyard production areas, and confined spaces
Exposure to noise, heat, cold, and varying weather conditions
Required use of PPE including hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, and fall protection
Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Extended periods of standing and working in tight spaces may be required
