The Aberdeen Investments Insurance Solutions Director (Americas) will play a leading role in the design, communication and delivery of a range of services, products and capabilities that incorporate Aberdeen’s insurance investment solutions offering in the Americas region. The role sits within the Strategic Insurance Group to promote and facilitate the extension of our global insurance capability in the US, Canada and Bermuda, with potential expansion to Latin America. The Insurance Solutions Director (Americas) will collaborate with colleagues across Aberdeen and with our Asset Classes and Client Group to set the strategic direction for engagement with insurers in the US and Canada, including on/off balance sheet business types. The role will design, implement and support existing client mandates to deliver solutions across single and multiple asset classes globally, including advisory and discretionary relationships with internal and third-party capabilities as appropriate. Client Engagement – Direct
Work with the Americas Institutional Team to execute our insurance business strategy: assess target clients and needs; communicate Aberdeen’s insurance investment capabilities; design and propose solutions with relevant investment teams; share insurance knowledge with colleagues serving insurance clients and prospective clients. Provide guidance and thought leadership to insurers on industry trends, market conditions and regulatory developments; capture and share regional knowledge through strategic engagements with stakeholders; act as a client interface and internal coordinator for research, design and embedding of new products and bespoke client solutions. Conceive and implement investment solutions for insurance clients, including pooled products for the mass-market and bespoke solutions for individual insurers; design complex cross-asset offerings to meet client objectives. Develop and maintain relationships with key insurance clients and prospects and deliver excellent client service, including technical support on insurance investment matters in a consulting/advisory capacity. Client Engagement – Indirect
Promote Aberdeen as a leader for insurance investment solutions in the US, Canada and Bermuda. Contribute to thought leadership through whitepapers and external speaking events. Collaborate with Global Macro and other teams to develop investment thought leadership to support the Strategic Insurance Group. Anticipate industry, regulatory, market and client trends and identify creative solutions for insurers; communicate with clients and stakeholders. Work with Aberdeen teams to develop and implement innovative insurance investment solutions or products and new investment strategies for insurance portfolios and pooled products. Key Requirements
The successful candidate needs to be credible in the eyes of US and Canadian insurance CIOs. Role Specific Skills & Knowledge
Strong understanding of the technical requirements of different types of insurers (life, P&C, reinsurers), including stakeholder objectives and interests. Exceptional understanding of NAIC, OSFI and BMA regulatory frameworks, and knowledge of other global risk-based capital regulation. Strong understanding of technical investment matters as they relate to insurers. Ability to originate, design and create solutions for a range of insurers in a commercially attractive manner for Aberdeen. Ability to identify commercial opportunities and convert them into commercial success. Ability to represent Aberdeen at high levels in the industry and with government or regulators. Strong communication, influencing, stakeholder management and presentation skills; ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical or senior audiences. Willingness to travel (including international). Risk Management & Regulatory
