Position Title Carrier Sales Agent (Freight Broker – Carrier Sales)

Position Summary The Carrier Sales Agent is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and managing carrier capacity to support both spot and dedicated truckload freight. This role is carrier‑facing and capacity‑driven, with a strong focus on building strategic carrier partnerships, ensuring coverage, and maintaining service reliability.
This position works closely with operations and leadership but is not responsible for direct customer sales.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Source, quote, and secure carrier capacity for ad‑hoc and dedicated truckload freight
Build, maintain, and grow long‑term relationships with core and strategic carrier partners
Negotiate rates and terms that align with service expectations and margin goals
Dispatch drivers and actively track loads from pickup through delivery
Proactively manage carrier communication regarding appointment times, delays, and service issues
Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve in‑transit issues quickly and professionally
Partner with leadership and operations teams to address service failures and implement corrective actions
Develop carrier depth on key lanes to improve coverage, consistency, and redundancy
Ensure accurate and timely data entry in the TMS and related systems
Adhere to company SOPs, safety standards, and customer‑specific requirements
Required Skills & Qualifications
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required with relevant experience
Proven ability to build and manage carrier relationships
Strong negotiation and communication skills
Excellent customer‑service mindset with a carrier‑first approach
High attention to detail and ability to handle significant data entry accurately
Ability to multitask, reprioritize, and perform in a fast‑paced environment
Coachable, accountable, and receptive to feedback
Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to remain calm under pressure
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Carrier coverage and acceptance rate
On‑time pickup and delivery performance
Carrier compliance with SOPs and safety standards
Load coverage speed and recovery time
Growth and retention of core carrier partners
