The Opportunity
We\'re expanding our data journalism capabilities to cover one of the most innovative developments in forecasting: prediction markets. As our Data Journalist, you\'ll transform complex datasets into compelling stories, build systems to monitor emerging platforms, and help CNBC lead the coverage of how markets predict the future.
What You\'ll Do Data Analysis & Reporting
Analyze and report on insights from diverse data feeds, with emphasis on prediction market platforms
Identify patterns, anomalies, and newsworthy trends in real-time market data
Research and produce stories on the prediction market ecosystem, including detailed coverage of Kalshi markets
Apply rigorous editorial judgment to ensure accuracy, context, and clarity in all reporting
Technical & Database Management
Collaborate with technical production teams to build and maintain databases monitoring coverage platforms
Develop workflows for ingesting, cleaning, and analyzing data from new partners
Create automated alerts for significant market movements or data releases
Manage datasets efficiently while maintaining speed and consistency
Content Production
Pitch original, data-driven story ideas that leverage unique insights from your analysis
Execute assignments developed with the editorial planning team
Produce content for both television and digital platforms, adapting your approach for each medium
Own TV segments end-to-end: coordinate bookings, produce graphics, source video, prepare anchor briefs
Collaboration & News Judgment
Build strong relationships with show teams, producers, and digital editors across the organization
Contribute to digital and social coverage during breaking news or high-interest data moments
Proactively flag upcoming events, market developments, and data releases to editorial planning
Stay deeply informed on prediction markets, forecasting methodologies, and related coverage areas
Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.

Qualifications What We\'re Looking For
Required
Minimum 2 years of professional experience as a data journalist
Demonstrated ability to find stories in datasets and communicate findings clearly
Strong multitasking skills with ability to manage priorities across broadcast and digital teams
Unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
Preferred
Bachelor\'s degree in journalism, economics, statistics, computer science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Experience with live reporting in fast-paced news environments
Proficiency with data analysis tools (SQL, Python, R, Excel)
You\'ll Stand Out With
Familiarity with prediction markets, probabilistic forecasting, or market microstructure
Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Datawrapper, D3.js, Flourish)
Background in economics, statistics, or computational methods
Portfolio demonstrating data-driven journalism across multiple platforms
Experience building news applications or interactive graphics
Understanding of API integration and data pipeline development
