The firm partners with banks, private credit lenders, specialty finance companies, and private equity sponsors to evaluate collateral, underwrite credit exposure, and provide actionable insights that support informed lending decisions. The
Associate, Asset-Based Lending (ABL)
will support collateral due diligence, financial analysis, credit underwriting, and portfolio monitoring for lenders across a wide range of industries—including manufacturing, distribution, consumer goods, logistics, and business services. This role is ideal for candidates with strong analytical skills, commercial finance exposure, and a desire to grow within a high-visibility consulting environment. The Associate will work closely with senior consultants to evaluate borrowing bases, assess collateral performance, and identify credit risks across client portfolios. Key Responsibilities
Analyze
borrowing base certificates , collateral schedules, AR aging, AP aging, and inventory reports. Perform
quality-of-earnings–adjacent
assessments to validate financial statement accuracy and collateral value. Evaluate trends in cash flow, working capital, margin performance, and liquidity. Review customer concentration, dilution, reserves, and eligibility metrics. Conduct
field exams
(on-site or remote) for ABL borrowers across various sectors. Test internal controls, collateral documentation, and borrower reporting accuracy. Assess operational processes, inventory management, and order-to-cash cycles. Prepare written reports summarizing findings, collateral availability issues, and risk considerations. Support underwriting teams with
credit memos , collateral evaluations, and loan structure recommendations. Identify red flags such as reporting inconsistencies, covenant risks, declining collateral quality, or operational gaps. Assist senior consultants with modeling and sensitivity analyses related to collateral coverage. Client Interaction
Collaborate directly with borrowers, lenders, and internal advisory teams. Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership and external stakeholders. Support business development efforts as needed, including proposal development and industry research. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in
Accounting, Finance, Economics , or related field. 2-5 years
of experience in ABL field exams, audit, credit underwriting, commercial lending, FP&A, or transaction advisory. Strong understanding of
working capital , borrowing bases, and financial statement analysis. Ability to analyze large data sets, identify discrepancies, and synthesize insights. Intermediate to advanced Excel skills; experience with SQL or data tools is a plus. Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex findings for non-technical audiences. Willingness to travel (10–30%, depending on the engagement).
