Job Overview
The Director of Development will grow revenue for Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Antonio by leading donor acquisition, portfolio management, and stewardship; executing digital fundraising campaigns and donor journeys; managing grants from research and proposal writing through reporting and compliance; and delivering high-ROI events and sponsorships that convert participants into long-term supporters.
Responsibilities & Duties
Develop, implement, and evaluate the organization’s annual fundraising strategy and goals.
Prepare regular reports on progress, budgets, receipts, and expenditure related to fundraising and the management of the fund development activities.
Supervise and lead development personnel in accordance with RMHC San Antonio policies and procedures.
Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and laws, maintain accountability standards to donors, and ensure compliance with code of ethical principles and standards of professional conduct for fundraising executives.
Donor Acquisition & Management
Prospecting & pipeline building: Identifies and prioritizes new individual, corporate, and foundation prospects; moves them from interest to engagement to giving.
Relationship-based fundraising: Builds trust through consistent outreach, meaningful touchpoints, and mission connection.
Solicitation & closing: Makes confident, values-based asks; tailors proposals and closes gifts with clear impact, benefits, and recognition.
Portfolio & moves management: Manages a donor portfolio with clear next steps, timelines, and revenue goals; drives renewals, upgrades, and reactivation.
Stewardship & retention: Delivers excellent donor care—timely thanks, impact reporting, recognition, and issue resolution—to strengthen loyalty.
CRM discipline & forecasting: Keeps accurate records, tracks activity, reports results, and forecasts revenue to guide strategy.
Digital Fundraising
Campaign strategy & execution: Runs online campaigns (appeals, giving days, peer-to-peer, matching gifts, monthly giving) with clear goals and calendars.
Email/SMS fundraising: Builds segmented journeys with strong CTAs, storytelling, and follow-up that increases conversion and retention.
Donation experience optimization: Improves giving pages and donor flow to lift conversion and average gift.
Content & storytelling: Turns family impact into compelling digital content in partnership with programs/marketing.
Analytics & testing: Tracks KPIs (conversion, retention, etc.) and runs A/B testing to scale what works.
Platform fluency & compliance: Works confidently with CRM/online giving tools and integrations; ensures data quality, attribution, and donor privacy.
Grant Development & Management
Funder research & fit: Identifies foundation/corporate/government opportunities aligned with RMHC mission and programs.
Proposal writing & packaging: Crafts clear, persuasive narratives with measurable outcomes, budgets, and supporting attachments.
Grants calendar & deadlines: Maintains a disciplined pipeline of submissions, reporting, renewals, and relationship touchpoints.
Reporting & stewardship: Produces timely, high-quality grant reports and keeps funders engaged through impact updates.
Event Fundraising & Sponsorship Management
Event strategy & revenue ownership: Plans events with clear financial goals, budgets, and ROI targets; aligns events to donor cultivation.
Sponsorship sales & fulfillment: Builds sponsorship packages, secures partners, and delivers benefits/recognition flawlessly.
Donor experience & logistics oversight: Ensures a high-quality guest experience through vendor coordination, run-of-show planning, and risk management.
Volunteer/committee leadership: Recruits and leads host committees; assigns roles and holds teams accountable to timelines.
Post-event stewardship & conversion: Executes rapid follow-up—thanks, reporting, and next-step asks—to convert attendees into donors and sponsors into long-term partners.
Education level Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or equivalent
License/Certifications CFRE a plus
Specific Skills
Socially assertive and comfortable meeting with everyone from volunteers to executives. Serves as a spokesperson and ambassador for RMHC in meeting our revenue goals.
Thorough understanding of traditional and digital marketing elements and market research methods
Demonstrable experience in donor and marketing data analytics and tools
Solid computer skills, including MS Office, marketing software (Adobe Creative Suite & CRM) and applications (Web analytics, Google Adwords etc.)
Exceptional communication and writing skills.
Excellent presentation, public speaking, and community relations skills.
Well organized and detail oriented, can manage multiple projects at the same time.
Experience At least 5+ years of experience in fundraising and/or marketing role. At least 3+ years managing a team. Demonstrated success in management, fundraising, marketing, and communication roles.
Other Requirements
Must be available and willing to travel to various locations and with such frequency as the business need dictates.
Successfully pass local, state, and national Criminal Background Check
Physical Demands
Constant – Ability to communicate with staff, board, funders, outside agencies, community leaders and others over the telephone and in person.
Constant – Ability to input data into computer, make calculations, complete paperwork, and produce reports.
Frequent – Ability to review and proofread documents to determine accuracy.
Frequent – Ability to drive safely and recognize hazards.
Occasional – Ability to lift, stack, load and move up to ten pounds from varied heights.
