Trade & Customs Compliance team oversees company’s global trade compliance efforts, covering areas such as U.S. imports, supply chain security initiatives, trade partnership programs, U.S. exports, and international sanctions. As a
Trade & Customs Compliance Specialist , your primary focus will be on strengthening import compliance operations. This includes classifying products accurately, evaluating regulatory obligations, determining applicable tariffs, managing compliance databases, supporting smooth customs clearances, handling reporting requirements, and conducting audits. You'll guide external partners, collaborate across departments and divisions, and help drive overall compliance strategy. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Address and resolve customs entry challenges, including discrepancies in documentation, shipment examinations, and other clearance hurdles. Gather and submit any supplementary documents needed to meet regulatory standards. Update and maintain the product database to facilitate accurate purchase orders and item maintenance. Perform routine compliance reviews, initiate post-entry amendments when necessary, track their progress, and secure any applicable refunds. Oversee recordkeeping and audits related to supply chain security programs. Contribute to the creation and ongoing refinement of import compliance guidelines, procedures, and supporting materials. Identify opportunities for process improvements and help roll out enhancements across your areas of responsibility. Support internal education efforts by delivering training sessions and creating practical compliance tools and resources. Handle administrative tasks for the department, such as organizing data, files, and tracking logs. Assign correct tariff classifications (HTS codes), calculate duty rates, and ensure all relevant regulatory rules are followed. Administer duty preference programs (e.g., free trade agreements) for imported goods and proactively seek ways to reduce duty costs. Review import data for adherence to rules, develop performance metrics, and prepare KPI reports. Take the lead in responding to inquiries or information requests from U.S. Customs or other government agencies. Act as the primary point of contact and expert for designated compliance programs, driving ongoing adherence and enhancements. Serve as a go-to resource for trade compliance questions, independently researching and interpreting regulations, internal policies, and best practices. Partner on cross-functional initiatives—both within the company and with external stakeholders—as needed. Maintain consistent and dependable attendance at your designated work location. REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
3–5 years of hands-on experience in customs compliance, import/export operations, international trade, or global supply chain activities, including direct exposure to U.S. import/export regulations and filings. Solid working knowledge of Google Workspace, Microsoft Office suite, and other company-specific tools. Highly detail-focused, with strong analytical and organizational capabilities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting effectively with diverse teams. Proven ability to solve problems, communicate clearly, and take proactive ownership of tasks. Self-starter who thrives in a collaborative team setting with minimal direct oversight. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a relevant field such as international business, supply chain, logistics, or law. Active U.S. Customs Broker License and/or certifications like Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or Certified Export Specialist (CES). Prior hands-on experience in import/export compliance, international trade, or global supply chain operations. Strong track record of collaborating effectively with colleagues at all organizational levels. Quick learner who can grasp complex regulatory frameworks and apply them consistently in day-to-day work. Comfortable juggling multiple projects and tight deadlines while upholding high standards of accuracy and thoroughness.
