Housing: Housing available, prefer local hire
Compensation: $1250-$1500
Schedule: Attend production meetings as scheduled and designer run on July 17, and July 20-25th (tech week)
About Barrington Stage Company Barrington Stage Company, an award-winning professional theatre company located in the heart of the Berkshires, is seeking a Lighting Designer to join our Devised Theatre Ensemble, in Pittsfield, MA. The lighting designer will design the lighting for the original devised show, and attend all production meetings as scheduled.

Job Overview Lighting designer is responsible for working with the director and students to design and the lights for the Devised Theatre Ensemble’s 2026 summer production. The ideal candidate should have experience working in theatrical light design, and experience or a strong interest in working as an educator. An early career or college student studying design would be a good candidate for this role.
Responsibilities
Responsible for the artistic design and technical execution of lighting for BSC Education productions (e.g., Youth Theatre, Playwright Mentoring Project).
Combines professional design standards with a mentorship-driven approach to involve student participants in the creative process.
Develop a comprehensive lighting design that supports the production's themes, mood, and safety requirements.
Serve as a mentor to student interns or volunteers. Explain the "why" behind design choices and, where appropriate, involve students in the hang, focus, and programming process.
Create and maintain clear, accurate paperwork, including light plots, channel hook-ups, and cue lists.
Lead the hang and focus sessions; program the lighting console (ETC Eos family) for the production.
Attend production meetings and rehearsals. Work closely with the Education Director and other designers to ensure a cohesive and cost-effective production.
Work within the specific financial constraints of the Education Department, prioritizing stock equipment and cost-saving measures.
Ensure all lighting elements meet safety standards and that students are supervised and trained in safe backstage practices.
Qualifications
Experienced lighting designer with recent portfolio
Experienced educator, who is able to mentor teens
Excellent collaboration skills
